    howdy.
So I've been doing some research and I just can't come to a conclusion and I'm wondering what your guy's opinion would be

I've got some slightly used (slightly settled) OMEs with 885 coils on the front, and dakar with an add a leaf on the rear (for roof top tent and occasional hitch mounted dirt bike). needless to say ass-end is sitting a little high when theres no bike on the back. So here shortly I'm looking to throw a bumper on, but no winch quite yet. would 886s be to much with no winch, or do I just throw a top plate spacer on what I have now and call it a holiday? maybe 886s will need a top plate spacer too to get the just right amount of level (not to much to be jacking around CVs of course). does leaving the sway bar connected affect things? IDK

Long story short: how do I get 3" out of the equation?

    Thanks

Maybe try 887's with a top plate and a Taco Lean Spacer ? The 887's will get you the 3" you want, and the 1/2" that the top plate spacer gives you, should account for the weight of a new bumper? Just a thought. I have a truck with 885 X and a top plate, it gave me just at 3" after settling with a stock bumper and a Westin Brush Guard. I have another running 887's with Bilstiens on zero, that has a stock bumper, it also has right at 3" lift. Both of them ride great. If you try 886's with a top plate it may end up too high, and also possible a harsher ride ? Just a thought, good luck.

I'd throw a top plate on what you have first. See where you sit after the bumper. If it's acceptable, wait until you put a winch in there before you add the 886 springs - you're going to want the spacers anyway, if you want 3 inches.

Instead of messing with new coils, spacers, and the hassle of changing it again down the road, just go with 886's. I got a little over 3" before my bumper and I'm at about 3" now with the bumper. Difference between front left and front right was only 1/4", almost impossible to notice.

Skunkman wouldn't 887s be even harsher still than the 886s?

Rusty15Tacoma you didn't throw a winch on with your bumper at the time did you? top plate? how was the ride? I'm always hearing that the only way the ride would be ok with 886s is with a winch, bumper, lights, jack, cooler, washer, and dryer hanging off the front.

Ride comfort is completely subjective. What's tolerable to a 21 year old kid is terrible to a 50 year old. I had my 886's on before my plate bumper and I, as well as the wife, liked the ride better than factory. Yes it was more stiff, but I didn't care for that soft "mushy/springy" ride. The coils help absorb a lot of the hard braking or fast acceleration that is felt with the original suspension. My 886's are also on 5100's. Again, this is my opinion.

With that being said, I now have a Demello flat top bumper. It does feel as if the ride softened up a teeny tiny bit. I'm sure with a winch, it'll be a little softer. As of right now, I do not have any spacers. When I get a winch, I may use a spacer, but that just depends. If my truck has the "Bro Lean", I can't tell.

Oh, and IIRC, 886's are longer than 887's and 887's have a lower spring rate. So if you did go with the 887's, you may end up with the same stance after accessorizing.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
887s are akin to the 885s. They have the same spring rate, but are longer. They won't be as stiff as the 886s.

Correct, same spring rate as an 885 X but instead of 2.5 will give you a full 3" without a top plate spacer. I have never run an 886 set-up so cannot comment on how they ride. I have never had a need due to no additional weight on the front.

Is there the equivalent to the 886 (888 haha),that the 887 is to the 885. Basically the heavier spring rate but gives the full 3" without using a spacer?
