Oil life

Is there anyone know how check oil life on this new tacoma? This is first time own this and i couldn't anywhere for the oil life meter on it.

 

I wouldn't go by those worthless oil life meters.

 

It's under the hood, pull the dip stick out.

Maintenance Manual says to change every 10k as long as you keep using synthetic, unless you meet the extreme driving requirements, which changes the interval to 5k.

 

Or once a year like my truck.

 

Yes, forgot to mention it is also 12 months if that comes before 10k. If on extreme schedule, it is 6 months if that comes before 5k.

 

Times have changed. The Synthetic is easily good for 10K.

I am changing my 0-20 Every six months as indicated. I put about 3K on in that period. Most of it local shorter trips.

you guys need to drive more often. I'm changing every 5k/2 months.

 

That contradicts my owners manual. Sorry, but I'm going to trust what Toyota themselves write rather than a dealers blog.

 

I don't need to drive more often, I'm not an important person.

 

The way that I read the text in red is that oil changes are 10k but you should still take it in every 5k for tire rotations and the other routine 5k mile services which would coincide with the manual. Oil changes are a part of scheduled maintenance but scheduled maintenance doesn't always entail an oil change.

My Toyota Maintenance Manual on page 38 of the maintenance log indicates 5K/ 6 month oil changes ....I make and consider a lot of short trips of five miles or less harder on the engine.

Cheap insurance.. Plus I got a very nice discount on the truck so throwing the dealer a few bones over the years works out. Unlike many I actually like my Dealer and they reward my service business buy selling me vehicles at invoice most of the time. There aren't many people who like their dealers. They have always done right by me. I have all my vehicles oil changes done by the respective dealers.

If I am going to the dealer for tire rotations or other maintenance every 5K , I may as well have the oil changed while there. Can't hurt.

 

My daily commute is 5.2 miles so I'll probably get them to do mine the first time just to see how it's holding up. For anyone who hasn't RTFM, below are the conditions for 5k/6month oil changes.
