so I had a taco in order at my local dealer. Guy gives me a verbal quote that later jumps 1k. Lead time on the truck was 90 days. I get upset about the cost increase and someone here recommended an out of state dealer who can get the truck for 2500 under what I'm paying and it would only take 3 additional weeks on top of the 3 weeks out from today.

Local guy calls me today, and truck came in early. Given my wavering patience I go to check it out. Having already pulled my deposit this jackoff now wants 3k over MSRP.

Told him to suck a bag of dicks and walked out of that place.

I don't understand why these SoCal dealers are so shady. It seems like everywhere else in the country people are having great experiences.

Sorry just needed to vent my frustrations. Anyway, 6 more weeks to go and I'll finally have her.

Come to Austin. My guy is doing $500 over invoice, and happily alters allocation orders so you can get exactly what you want. They are AWESOME!

So how far did you get in the deal before he told you he wanted $3k over MSRP? Did you ask him if the price was still the same when he called you?

I think TrueCar is great, although I think the knee jerk reaction from auto companies is to raise their invoice cost. That "good deal" you found might have been an inflated good deal.

When you make the deal why don't you sign a contract and give them a deposit?

This is your fault for getting a verbal agreement.

I would suggest you research Express Contract Law. If they tried to trick you, which you obviously think they did, you can get any express contract upheld

Was this Culver City Toyota?? lol

Ha! I was at the dealership for my first service today and they had a TRD OR (non 4x4) so it didn't have Crawl Control. It had a lift on it, aftermarket wheels and tires, JBL and Premium package, otherwise stock, no sliders, step-up bars, etc. They wanted $50,000 for it! Hahahahahaha! They are even trying to charge $995 for window tint!!!!

I got my quote in writing but I am waiting 8 weeks. I am still not optimistic that I will have avoided all dealer games. They always find a way to throw something in there.

Truecar shows that a lot of folks in socal paid invoice and some under invoice for their 3rd gens. Its a wonder how it doesn't jive with what TW member experiences are like.

True Car is becoming bullshit. Dealers aren't even honoring True Car offers given from their Dealership and True Car doesn't seem to care about it.

Agreed. But by doing so, they are digging their own grave. Soon to be irrelevant.

Don't blame the dealers....Blame your fellow Tacoma customers who are very willing to pay MSRP and more. That dealer KNOWs they can sell the truck for MSRP or more. What is his incentive to sell you at a lot less? Are you a regular customer? Have you purchased accessories there before? Do you get your paid services done there? All of that matters, Once one has a relationship with a dealer, discounts are reserved for those people they call or fish for in the service bay. I cannot get the Wife's Honda serviced without a sales person making me offers. They are great offers but we are not ready to move on.

I don't blame a dealer who can get MSRP easily and even a few thousand on top. That is their job to make as much profit as the customer will allow.

WE the customers determine how much they make.

If 90% of SoCal buyers are paying MSRP and more, the dealer has ZERO incentive to sell you a truck for less. UNLESS

    1. They know you from previous purchases
    2. You have had all your service done there

    It's all about relationships.

I am sure that dealer, like all dealers have long time customers they will give a break to on a new Tacoma or anything in stock. Why should they do the same for you? What incentive do you give them?
