What you need to know about lifting a 2016 Tacoma - Presented by Toytec Lifts

What do you guys think about this setup? I think I would switch the blocks for AAL.

Honestly it would be hard to say if this is a good setup. We all know the Light Racing UCAs will work awesome(great price btw), but those coilovers are no name brand. Unless you find someone else with these same shocks to provide a review it's hard to say, but most folks go with Bilstein, Toytec, King, Fox or Icons.

 

Its a recommended practice, but they can be reused and typically hold up just fine. In fact I can't recall ever hearing one give out... maybe a low grade aftermarket ubolt, but that's another story. If the threads are in good shape, they aren't rusted and they are long enough to get the job done I personally have no issue reusing them.

Update on my rubbing issue after the Total Chaos/King Lift: Took it to the install shop today because of the horrible rubbing, especially in reverse. They cranked up the front end a little bit (it was not previously altered from King's factory settings), and added some caster on the alignment. They then put 780 pounds worth of installers in the cab and went on a test drive and couldn't get it to rub at all... That's good news! We'll see what happens when I take it out and get rough with it though.. Loving the truck and the lift so far!!

What are the shocks set at now? What caster angle? Installing the same exact kit tomorrow.

 

I don't know how much more they cranked them from stock settings. I didn't measure, but I've attached a 'before' pic, as well. They were originally installed without adjustment right out of the box, and King already pre-compensates for the 'taco lean', thus the difference in the gaps. They said they adjusted them around 1/2" before they began, which looks to be fairly accurate based on the pictures. I don't know what the caster angles are, sorry.

Hi Guys, I'm sorry if this has been said already (I've sifted through pages with no answer). Can you throw Biltein 5100 adjustable struts in the front to bring up the front 1.5-2 inches?

 

Yes. This is a popular lift for Tacomas. I am getting this done right now. However, I am also adding 5100s in the rear and adding a leaf to lift the back as well.

 

you using the factory springs up front? or did you upgrade?

Let me know if your add a leaf works out nice... I added a leaf in my 05 Tacoma and it squeaked/creaked terribly...

I'm gunna put 5100's as a bandaid until I get the courage up to get the stage 5 Icon suspension kit.

 

Will do. I did this same lift on my 2011 TRD Sport and it worked perfectly. Im hoping this one works out as well as the last.

 

Im going to install the ToyTec Boss kit and replace the ucas. Where can i get a replacement bolt for the uca bolt that needs to be cut?
Dealer or auto parts store?

This bolt fits both Lexus and Toyota so most dealers have them on the shelf. Pricing is not too bad either. I have 2 at my store in Plano.
