Street and trail or an actual dirt bike?

 

Actual dirt bike enduro with DOT kit. That way I have the wide ratio transmission and no California emissions crap.

But definitely not a MX bike

 

So a trail bike with a baja street and trail kit?

Yep.
So if I buy a new truck I'm going to just buy a used Yamaha WR250 or Honda equivalent.
But if that doesn't work out I'm gonna to build credit on a brand new bike.
A KTM 300 XCF-W and then add on a DOT kit.
However I have a friend thinking I would do better on a 200 XC-W (Two stroke). I'm going to go riding on his wife's to see if I'd like that better. Still leaning towards the 4 stroke for the linear power band and engine breaking. It's gonna be like 90% tight trails, hardly ever go to the dunes, and something I can brap to work when the taco is down.

 

I wouldn't ride a 2stroke on the street, but that is just me.

I like Japanese bikes, ktm is too rich and finicky for my blood.

If you want a WR, then get a wr250f that is already highway legal (they're sold that way).

 

I wouldnt get a two stroke for street. My opinion though

 

I feel the same way. It wouldn't be ridden on the street often but still.

Regarding the wr250f, I was looking at one. Not sure I'd want one though becuase of the emissions tune.

 

What purpose do the axle sliders serve on a dual-sport bike?

 

I get this a lot...

I run them because I ride so much on the street. In the OP, you can see the bottom of the right fork has a gouge. Well, the rear axle that sticks out past the lock nut, is also gouged (luckily, the first time I threaded the axle lock nut off, the damage to the end of the axle disappeared).

Had I had the sliders on, neither damage would have occurred. At my experience level, Its not if you're going down, its when.

Lubing and tightening the chain now. Running low on adjustment...might need a new chain and sprockets before too long.

 

Its got snow on it, but I didn't put it there. Way to sick to muscle this thing around.

 

Cool bike. I had a Black 08 DRZ-SM, thing was a hooligan machine and fun. Kinda wish I still had it, was clean as a whistle when I sold it.
