I'm new to the whole customization thing with my tacoma. I have a 2013 and plan to put a 3" lift on it. I'm just a little confused about what size tire. I've seen a few posts where they're saying 285/75/16 will fit with no trimming, others say that they had to trim. I'm running 16" aftermarket rims and thinking of ko2 tires. Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

285's will rub; however, if you take off the mud flaps and the little flap on the front you'll be close. It's pretty easy to trim the inner fender with a dremel. I still haven't done the cab mount chop, but I need too. Only rubs when turning over a bump and with my fat boy coworkers in the truck.

I have 285s with mud flaps removed, 1.25" spacers and no rubbing. Depending on what kind of aftermarket wheels you have depends on whether you'll need spacers to prevent rubbing the UCAs.

I went with 285/65/18 with -12offset and 4.5 backspacing and CMC was not needed

flex your truck n get back to me.

OP, anything bigger than a 265/75R16 if you flex your truck will rub in some form..... if you plan on going to 285/75R16 plan on, inner fender removal / trimming, pinch weld flattening, and cab mount chop.

^This. Drew must not get on the trail often..I've done all that (inner fender trimming and some removal, flattening pinch weld and a CMC) to fit 285/75/16s with a 3" lift

lift amount doesnt matter with tire size... if you cycle the suspension (ie FLEX THE TRUCK) it will rub on a 285/75R16

255/85/16 might work for you. It's been great for me with 2.5" lift. The key is to use wheels with stock dimensions.

Edit: Just noticed you have a sport. 255/80/17...

Here we have a 3" OME lift with 285/75R16 tires. I'm doing some very minor flexing on a small hill. No CMC. If someone plans on serious off-roading, keep these pictures in mind. That size tire barely fitsimage.jpg image.jpg

What lift do you have? A spacer lift, by limiting up travel, will let you avoid alot of cutting. That benefit brings a ton of issues though.
