Hey Everyone, after looking at the TSB threads on here and the posts regaurding 09 ans 10's getting TSB done, I looked at the latest TSB found on here from 08. The part numbers on my springs match the part numbers on the springs to be replaced on the TSB. Also, my springs have 2 arched leaves and 1 flat bar. Am I on the right track? I have called Toyota 800# and Dealer called today and acted like I was stupid, until I asked him why the part numbers matched. Any help on this would be a big help.

Sounds like you have the 3 spring pack. 2 main leaf, and an over load.

Keep going the way you are...You've got the right idea. That flat bad ia an overload leaf- so you have a 3 leaf pack.
If the part numbers match should be able to talk the dealer into it after a bit. If they aren't being helpful keep calling the 800 number.

Damon, are the part numbers easy to see on the springs? I'm working on my dealership to do the replacement, and it would be helpful if I could point this out. Thanks.

I just looked in over my back tire and there they were big block letters in white. I stuck my iphone in the tire well with a flashlight on the other side and snapped a few shots, then took them in to my computer to campare with TSB, same numbers. Hope this helps, let me know what you find out, we can work on them together.

Don't know why Toyota keeps dicking around with these springs. After installing my topper and loading up the tools in my 2010, I wouldn't be surprised if my trailer hitch starts dragging and throwing sparks. I guess they are trying to keep people happy who don't use their truck as a truck and complain about a harsh ride and want girly soft springs.

Don't be a dick about it. Just explain your concerns and keep in contact with Toyota about the issue. The dealer is not going to perform work and install parts they are not going to get paid for so you have to look at it from that angle. This is why most have success with getting approval through Toyota first.

I love my 08, but had to jump through all the hoops to get the TSB done and they still put on those crappy springs -

Agreed. If your 2010 isn't covered under the leaf spring TSB, why would a dealer install two new leaf packs and pay a tech several hours labor if he wasn't going to get reimbursed from Toyota?

Your issue is with Toyota Corporate - not the so called Parts Manager tough guy.

If someone paid 32K for their Taco and find out that their truck is not able to do whats its suppose to. I'd be really dissapointed.

First of all, the parts manager is being a "tough guy", because you're dealing with the wrong person. All TSB's are handled through the service dept. So, unless the parts guy has two titles, Parts and Service manager, you're getting a hold of the wrong guy.

Second, if your VIN number isn't in the range of numbers to get replacement springs, Toyota isn't going to pay for them. If Toyota kicks the warranty claim back to the dealer, the dealer eats all the parts and labor charged to the repair order. If this happens on a regular basis, the dealer gets audited by Toyota, and all warranty claims are looked over for fraud.

Don't get angry just be persistant. Show them the facts. For me I just had to explain it three times for the guy to finally go talk to his manger. For some reason there were no TSBs listed for my truck on the computer but, the manager did more digging and figured out I was eligable. Don't know if the tech was trying jack with me since I am 17 or what but it got done.

Be nice but persistent about the facts that your parts match the TSB and it's a safety concern when you carry even moderate loads in the truck. I certainly wouldn't want a pissed off tech working on my truck...

If they can't do it, it's because they won't get reimbursed by Toyota because the TSB doesn't officially cover you. Lots of people have successfully engaged Toyota Customer Care, opened a case and worked through getting the TSB on '09s... I suspect that'll be the case on '10s as well. Total crap, though... same damn springs for years but the TSB is frozen in '08.

Agreed with the first paragraph, you need to talk to the service manager about the TSB...the parts guy would not have anything to do with it.

My VIN number did not match the TSB cause it is a 2010 but when my service guy told Toyota that is is the old leaf number they said to send the part back and do the TSB. Plus I had a friend have his 2009 done at the same dealership. It helps that I bought it there too. Good luck

Keep in mind that 99% of the people on the service drive, and the parts dept, and the shop really don't care if you get your TSB done or not. Therefore, be polite, be persistent, and be prepared to go over the service managers head, if you have to. Call Toyota, and tell' em the problem, if they OK the work, you're good to go. If not find another dealer that wants you as a customer.

It's all a game, and if you play it the right way, you can always win.

Well, I got the call today from my local Toyota dealer. They told me that what Toyota has done was to keep the same old springs in the production line, so they are still putting the weak leaf packs in the new trucks. He told me that they will fix the the "Harsh Ride" with upgraded springs, but that it was not included within the "TSB" but that it was a "Warranty" issue. They keep warning me that the ride without the load will be in their words "alot" rougher. I just told them I bought a truck, cause I needed a "truck". I want to thank you all for your help and comments, good luck to those still in need of new springs.
