The brightness of the info screen between the tach and speedometer is also adjustable too.

I took my passenger side dash speaker off and drove without it. The aggravating noise was still there. It seems to be where the dash is rubbing against either the corner of the windshield or somewhere on the side. I had a passenger put some pressure on it and the noise went away. I wedged a small piece of plastic between the dash and sidewall and will see if the noise Is there tomorrow. Mine is a 16 DC OR. I have 10k miles and started noticing the noise a couple thousand miles ago, but it seems to be getting louder and more persistent now.

I have the same rattle by the passenger side speaker too. Removing the shelf did nothing but that thing sucked anyway. I'll test some things out tomorrow as well. Hopefully I can quell it but for now the stereo covers up most of it.

Ive noticed something vibrating/rattling in that area as well. But it seems to only happen or at least be noticible at certain rpms.... Hmmm...

Im here for the dash rattle party. I just noticed it a couple weeks ago while driving without the stereo on for the first time. Im also blessed with OCD so it's like a mosquito in my ear that won't die but it shuts up if I apply upward pressure on the passenger side dash with one hand and is back again the instant I remove my hand. So PLEASE someone find a fix before i drive off a cliff. Also, I keep two umbrellas in the driver and passenger door pockets☂☂Seriously. My access cab rear doors open the same as on the rolls so all I need now is the "spirit of ecstasy " emblem on the hood and it'll be fit for the queen

So I've definitely isolated the noise—it's coming from behind the glovebox towards the bottom. I suspect it's plastic on plastic vs wiring rattle. I can't for the life of me remove that damn glove box, it's a totally different design from the 2nd gens. Hopefully the stealership can fix it during my appt Friday. I'll keep you all posted.

Believe the vibration while stopped with transmission in drive, as you described is from the Atkinson/Otto whatchamacallit mode where the motor kicks down and cleans out the injectors or some shizz

Agree the transmission and motor combination was a bit of a swing & a miss by Toyota. Particularly if this design switch was made to improve fuel economy.... my experience and the numbers on Fuelly show there has been no significant improvement in fuel economy on the 2016. I thought things would improve but after putting over 3,000 miles on mine, I find my old lady's 2016 4Runner motor and transmission combo much more enjoyable to drive and she is averaging less than 1mpg difference in fuel economy from my Tacoma.

I've noticed a rattle also, but it seems to only be there when first starting in the morning and goes away after a while. Many say they have traced it to the speaker in the top-right corner though it seems to me to be coming from the airbag compartment. Like if I push on and wiggle the soft dash upholstery just above the glove-compartment it makes the same sound. I've been looking for dash tear-down instructions but haven't found any for the 3rd-gen's yet. Kinda sounds like plastic wiring coupling that's not secured and bumping against the plastic housing of the dash.

    1. Glove box rattle. OMFG this is annoying. it sounds like plastic rattling when accelerating (or persistent on rough roads). This happens independent of glovebox contents, or removal of the shelf.

Do you need to know, or care?
For me, it's the passenger seat belt that rests against the pillar and rattles like hell, drives me absolutely insane! I lean over grab it, give it a pull, and it starts rattling again.

Mine developed the same creak in the upper right corner after about 2500 miles and can be replicated by pushing the dash as mentioned. Was occasional at first but now does it all the time. Have my 6 month service appt in a couple weeks so I'll probably mention it then.

Mine does not rattle but it does clunk against the pillar if I take a sharp corner or fast left turn. Thinking maybe some foam padding on the belt might stop that

Pro Runner 2.75" struts in front. Pro Comp upper control arms. Pro Runner shocks & 1.5" blocks in rear. Pro Comp 17x9 wheels. Pro Comp 285/70 MT2 Tires.
My headliner has 2 places it's making noise. Just behind the headliner consol & just in front of the rear view mirror at the winsheild. If I just bearley touch either spot it stops the noise.

I've always found all toyotas to have really touchy brakes.
from all the cars I've driven I've found Audi has the nicest brakes from factory
