Ok, so here is an update. I e-mailed the dealership. They are asking $16,000 pre Taxes, etc. So after loan, taxes, and truck I'd be around $18-19,000. I told them after it was checked out, the price was too high. I asked for $14,500 out the door or just forget it. They said if I brought them $14,500 to show I'm serious they'd talk. So, is it worth $14,500 out the door. I'd end up around $15,500 after paid off.

Walk away from that. That is a rip off. They hold their value because they go a long time.

A month ago I just bought a 01 trd double cab 2wd with 200k miles for $5,900. It's in great shape. There are deals out there be patient.

Look us Wyoming guys up when you get here to do some wheeling. :burnrubber:

I traded a 2003 sr5 a/c automatic 4x4 with 200k on it when I bought my 2010(new). They gave me $9500 and I thought I did well. Truck was perfect with newer timing belts as well. Good rubber and zero body damage. So I think $14,500 is still a bit high. $12,000 would sound better, it is only 2wd.

I hunted for awhile to find that one. Actually got it in Montana. Rust you don't have to worry about here, we don't salt the roads. You can find them here but honestly most places you go they command a good price. From what I've seen. 2wd go in the range of 7,000 to 12,000. 4wd usually go in the 10,000 to 15,000 range. I was in the right place at the right time for both my tacos. I don't mind wrenching on them so, I'm willing to buy things others who can't fix their vehicle wouldn't want.

So they are probably ripping me off because they dropped the price to $14,500? I thought that that would be a pretty good deal for the 2002 with 50k miles. I see other 2002s at the same price with 100k miles... I guess I am just confused, haha.

I guess it isn't 4x4 which everyone says I'll need in Wyoming anyway. It's located right outside LA.

Yeah the only reason I bought a 2wd is because in the future I'm going to do a solid front axle swap and a manual Transmission swap. So the extra money for a 4wd that I would be ripping out didn't make sense. Your going to want 4wd if your going to move here. Where you looking to move too?

Probably won't find another first gen with that low of miles with that said the reason these trucks are so sought after and keep there value up is because if they are cared for they will run for hundreds of thousands of miles and are reliable. Being you are in the LA area there are quite a few on craigslist for sale in the so cal area. I personally think you can find a better deal. All the ones I seen range from 7-12 grand. When you buy from a dealer your always gonna pay more money. Couple other things is the dealer offering any included warranty? Have they smoged the truck?

Sounds to me like you're very trigger happy on the situation. I'd never pay that much for a 2wd, 14 year old truck.. It just doesn't make sense.

I got a red 01 extended cab sr5 TRD 4x4 5 speed v6 with 116k miles for $6750 out the door. The body is in good shape with almost no rust but there is some minimal rust underneath.

You will most likely need 4x4. Wyoming snow is bad in the winter. You'd get stuck, regretting your decision of buying a $14k 2wd truck. Not trying to rain on your parade, but it would be a no brainier to me.
