Posted this in a thread about 2016 transmission problems, but thought I would reach my intended audience better here:

I bought a 2015 at auction last November. Only had 5000 miles on it. It had been in a mild front end collision and popped all the air bags. They had done all the body work but left the airbags out. Retail quote for replacing all the airbags was $10K.
Got it cheap ($17K) and found a cheap source for air bags ($2200) and put it all back together. Very happy, screaming deal, but stepping on the brakes approaching a stoplight, off the brakes and on the gas without stopping and it was like being hit in the back with a sledge hammer. No tranny slippage at all from a dead start.
Did my research on this site and found out that many of the V6 tow package models ended up with low transmission fluid. Put the shop foreman in the passenger seat and showed him what was happening, told him I thought it was low on transmission fluid. He said he had never seen that problem, but agreed to check it.
Damned if it wasn't just over a quart low on fluid. He topped it off and we took it out for another test drive. No more whiplash from stop and go driving.
Just wanted to thank everyone in the forum for being a great source of community knowledge on Tacomas.
Put me down as another satisfied customer of Tacoma World.

About the cheapest fix I have heard of. Glad it worked out well.

 

Cheaper than you know, the transmission inspection/top off was covered under warranty

Good deal, hate this no trans dip stick crap on new trucks.

 

Me too, how can you check the fluid without one?!?

 

Have to jump ports in the obdi and follow a crazy shift and warning light sequence, check plug on transmission for fluid or no fluid draining at proper temp.... did it once. Sucked.

 

The ironic thing is, by posting this you have also contributed to the knowledge base, and will likely help someone else.

 

Glad that worked out, sigh breathe easy now lol.
