An ice house is a building that you store all the ice blocks in , usually made of masonary or partially buried like a root cellar

 

so you build the ice a building, and cool down the climate to prevent global warming?

all nonsense aside, what is the purpose of cutting the ice, transporting, storing, then making giant flamingos out of it?

 

Before electricity ice blocks were used for refrigeration , ie an old school fridge was an "ice box " because it literally was a box with a block of ice in it , blocks were harvested in winter and stored in a building for use throughout the rest of the year . The thermal mass of the masonary building or insulating value of a partially buried building plus the thermal mass of the ice blocks themselves kept the blocks frozen through the summer

 

so its just part tradition now then? or if you want to freezea bunch of moose?

 

Frozen water is still cold , even now that there is electricity

 

Not to far from There is a ice cream stand (kinda a small building on side of road)looking place where you can buy ice blocks. Never got any ice from it but have seen people doing so.
