It you aren't going to replace it now, put some speed tape over at least the chip (as long as it's not in your field of view). It will keep the dirt/water out and prevent more cracks from the water freezing in the damaged area.

I don't wanna jinx myself, but my car has had a chip since early 2004 on the front windshield and no cracks yet. I've kept speed tape over the damage and it hasn't grown any.

what the hell is 'speed tape'??

my stuff is too far gone to put anything on it to save it now. its went 2diff ways from the rock chip/burst area. hell i got like 3 other spots that a rock hit, but they dont have a star burst yet. the one in the brow area is pretty big but i think bc i had a brow tint there it kept it from splittin off at all. i wished there was some type of clear window film (like the tinting material) u could put on the inside of the window that could prevent the starbursts from runnin like that. that would be a dam good investment for sure if it would work like that

sorry... I used to use it on airplanes and that's what we called it. It's metal tape. Lowe's sells it. Sometimes used on heating ducts.

Hope your windshield lasts through the winter.
