I've been searching for a thread specific for Debadging and dechroming.I've found instances of debadging but I thought I'd start a thread for it specifically, unless there's already one I didn't find.

I'm looking to start on mine.

Please show your photos if you have them.

Put it in between the truck and the badge and pull it tight to get the badges off

Simplest method is a hair dryer and credit card. Heat the badge up real good and pry it loose with the credit card. Wear gloves because your fingers will get hot. Once it's off use Goo Gone to get the rest of the sticker residue off.

Can't help you with the chrome removal.

Not so much with chrome removal but plasti-dip or painting, like your grill and whatnot.

Can't help you there either. Bunch of people on here plasti dip their stuff. Supposed to be real simple with little prep work necessary. I like a more permanent solution and usually replace the whole part with the color I want.

When I pulled off my badges I parked the truck outside in the sun. It was a hot day so it didn't take long for everything to heat up. I used some fishing line to saw through the double-sided tape that holds the badge on. If you cut the tape closer to the badge it can actually make removal easier (in my experience). Once the badge was off I was able to roll the tape off. It needs to stay warm though otherwise removal will be a lot harder and the tape will likely break into pieces rather than stretch and pull off.

As for chrome removal, I bought a painted grill from Camelback Toyota, painted the front emblem with Dupli-color and had my rear bumper stripped and then powder coated. There are plenty of other options though.

Write up on debadging and destickering mine:

Write up on color matched grill on mine:

I expect I will get a new rear bumper at some point which will effectively remove the chrome from the rear.

Also I feel I am still in a probationary period here at TW and I won't be a fully accepted member until I plastidip something - so perhaps if bored one day I might do that to the chrome emblem on the grill.

image.jpg image.jpgCompletely de-badged, bought it like that though. However I coated the lower portion, below the door sills, with two coats of rust reformer and sealed it with bed liner. Plasti dipped the emblem and front lower, center portion, of the bumper black. Plasti dipped the GFs rims on her car, she loves them now. PD is some BA stuff, holds up to the weather and washes, if you get enough coats. Chrome plated plastic will loosen with alcohol then some fine course sand paper will finish the job. Yup, grab your favorite color Plasti dip and spray the shit out of it. Not much prep needed for this stuff.

To take off the fake chrome, get a plastic tub and submerg the badges/emblems in bleach. Change the bleach once a day for a week. Rinse with water and scrub with steel wool, scotch bright, etc. Prep and paint. I don't think I have any pics, but I'm de badged and the front emblem is painted. De badged on a warm day with fishing line and cleaned like stated above. Floss should work the same way.

Plasti-dip, from home depot? or where did you get yours?
Satin, matte or gloss for your grill?

Yup, any place willing to sell it. Got mines from Walmart. I got matte black just because I hate shiny things. It's a little different from spray paint in that spay paint you do several light coats, letting each coat dry. Plasti dip, in my experience, you spray until it looks wet and creates a thick layer. Do this several times and you'll have a bad ass paint job.

Plastidip is so ridiculously easy to do.

    1) clean the area of dirt and wax
    2) roughly mask off an area 1" around the emblem
    3) spray on several light coats of Dip over the whole area (I'd go with a minimum of 5)
    4) once it's dry, pick a corner near your masking and carefully peel it away. The Plastidip will tear around the edges of your emblems. Clean out inside the A and O with a wooden toothpick.

Voila. Done. It's some kind of voodoo ;)

YouTube it. It really is foolproof. Mines been on a year and a half now with no issues.

I live in AZ and pulled all mine off last summer. Just left my truck in the driveway. Didn't need a heat gun or credit card or floss or any of that stuff.

    20151111_164053.jpg 20151111_164142.jpg 20151119_131638.jpg

I had a few stubborn spots with glue residue but the clay bar made quick work of it.
