Currently, I have '13 4x4 OR with about 26k on it. A friend of mine has been bugging me to sell it to him because I have been switching cars/trucks every 2 yrs or so. The Taco has been the longest truck that I have kept. It has been awesome so I haven't made a decision yet. If I were to sell it, it will be hard because he'll want a deal. What do you guys think would be a fair price for this? What would you guys do in this case? Since I graduated college in 2003, I have been through about 9-11 cars or trucks.

Even though I have told them that I don't plan to sell it right now, his wife texted and said I should sell it to him for 24k. Way too low in my opinion. He has been my best friend since college but I think that is way too low.

You need to stabilize and hold on to a car longer...

Never do business with friends or family. Sooner or later it is going to blow up.

See they are already trying to screw you on the price 24K... Really?

    1) Your car ADD is hurting your credit. Keep something for longer. Trust me, I used to be the same way. You're just costing yourself money.

    2) Never, ever sell something valuable to a friend / family / loved one. It's a terrible, terrible idea. Again, I have tried it and have been there. Don't do it.

Lol! I am the same way when it comes to cars/trucks..I always have one or two stable ones, then rotate through the others like mad. I bore easily.
I would really suggest you tell your friend that you think it will come between them. I have done it a few times and keep getting bitten. I won't do it again. course...I said that the other times too... ;)

I probably had 20 different vehicles before I was 30. Many of them Toyota trucks and many of them financed. Lots of mod money that essentially just got flushed down the toilet when I traded/sold them. I've cooled down a little now in my 40's but I still have the sickness. In the last 10 years I've had 10 different vehicles including 4 Tacomas. But most of those were 4-$5k projects that I sold without losing too much. Now I've just got my double cab an 05 Mustang GT along with my old plow truck. And I'm itching for another FJ40. It really is a sickness. It's financially a bad idea and you just can't help yourself.

Show him this post just before you tell him no sale. It will help him understand why.

Unless he gave you a kidney or you kissed his wife without his permission, why would you take 4-5k less than what your truck is worth? Why would a "friend" want to squeeze you like that? I don't understand.

His wife texting you with a lowball offer is a red flag not to do this. Take the advice of others here and stay away from this sale.

Think like Dave Ramsey keep the truck. Your short term ownership habits are only costing you money nearly all automobiles loose value so it is a poor investment strategy. Unless you can afford one of the few who can afford a 1962 Ferrari GTO and you most certainly are not.

Thanks for the opinions. Cars/trucks have been like an addiction to me. Just like alcohol and drugs to addicts, you just need more. As I get older (37), maybe it's time to slow down. I'm trying to restrain myself about the midsize diesel. I'm probably going to keep this now and just drive it until I get tired of it.

You have a good reliable truck that should last for a long time easily 200k as long as you keep it maintained so just keep it. I paid cash for my truck so it was mine instantly I suppose in some ways when you finance it truly doesn't feel like it is yours. I would keep the truck and put money aside it doesn't have to be enough to buy what ever you think you might want but think how much several grand in cash to put down does for the price.

I look at expensive items that I need/want as some fine whiskey save up for it and then enjoy it. Enjoy something because it is yours.

I could give zero F***s what some dude at the stop light thinks about my truck its my truck. Kinda like Full Metal Jacket "this is my rifle there are many like but this one is mine my rifle is my life I must master it as I must master my life" haha replace rifle with truck.

Maybe just the way I was raised to work hard and enjoy and have pride in what is yours. I have never played the lottery first because the odds are extremely low (you are almost as likely to find a winning Powerball ticket as you are to win actually buying one) and second I just would not enjoy money that I hadnt actually earned through work maybe that sounds crazy but that is how I roll.

Furthermore it sounds to me like your friend or his wife are trying to pressure you into selling at a lower price because your buddies. If that is the case I would re-evaluate this friendship to be frankly honest. Unless you know that his wife is just a .........
