There seems to be little love in this department for my old pickup. I want bolt on sliders that I don't drill into the frame for.

My truck isn't going to be bashing rocks, I just want something to protect my truck from other people's doors in the raging war zone at the mall.

    A few.
I used some nerf bars on my '02 off my previous truck before I got my 4x Innovations weld on sliders. Depending on your craftiness and skills you could get some weld on sliders and create some custom bolt on brackets that would fit your frame. That said sliders tend to turn into something of an investment between shipping, welding, and finishing if you aren't going to wheel your truck. I'd be willing to part with my old nerf bars, but shipping from Colorado would likely be prohibitive as well. Also rattle can spray on bed liner makes a decent and inexpensive way to finish them.

CBI appears to be the most cost effective option. I like how they mount to the frame by clamping.

Nerf bars are too bulky to me unless they're those nfab ones which are the price of sliders

I wouldn't go trail gear. Also, I've heard they have to be the clamp style or they wont really hold up much do to the 1st gen frame

I like these! It says ships directly from the manufacturer. It also says shipping & handling to your door is 15 days. Then it said if you ordered now you would get them mid March. Must be busy over at trailgear. I live in California and I think trail gear is either in Oregon or Washington. I wonder if it would be quicker to order from the actual site? Price would be more and it wouldn't be free shipping either I bet! Nice find.

I have the CBI ones they are exactly what your looking for. They clamp over the frame and if you want they have self tappers that hold them in place. However you don't need to add those as the clamps are really tight. I never added the self tapers i dented the tubes and bent the entire sliders they barley moved on the frame.

They came off when the frame was replaced. The passenger side one was bent like a banana my friend had to use the vehicle lift to press it back on. Defiantly work well easy to install the only issue I had was one spot rubbed the cab a bit probably due to my saggy body mounts.

Personally I don't like the idea of self tapping screws holding to one side of the frame. If you want bolt on they should at a minimum be thru bolted with a backing plate. Or u bracket style like CBIs, our frames are thin imo putting great stress on a few bolts that are threaded into the super thin steel without any backing is less than ideal. If you go trailgear I would recommend welding them on as it will be stronger and you can't back the bolts out over time.

If you weld them on then they're on for good. I guess you just have to decide if you are going to keep that truck for good or if you ever get another Tacoma that those weld on sliders would fit on what do you do to take them off the old truck to put on the new but same generation Tacoma? Just grind the welds off?

With an angle grinder and a metal cutoff wheel it would take a couple hours to chop them off.

When you factor in cost to weld on the TG ones if you don't have a welder, they are Probably still cheaper. But I would get a quote Before purchase. take into account resale value in a couple years the CBI ones will be still worth quite a bit as the design is more desireable to your average person.

Edit: keep in mind that my CBI feet would not work with the TG crossmember tcase skid! I ended up making my own flat belly but I would have to do some mods to make them work with that. If you want to add stuff like that in the future keep that in mind, however if you call CBI they could probably move the legs enough to accommodate a future crossmember.
