Me and the Mrs drive Toyota. No rhyme or reason. We just like driving cars that are reliable and safe.

Not when it comes to Bikes. Even my Ultra Classic has had a crapload of recalls. I am selling it in the Spring. Harley learned nothing.

Camry specs out to $35k pretty fast ... what is your point? I guess instead of a Camry I could get a Lexus or Acura? Oh wait, no, spec'd out IS (smaller than Camry) ends up $50k+ ... Or are you just upset that there is inflation so stuff doesn't cost the same as when you were a kid and could get a comic book for 10 cents? Everything is more expensive today than it was, so I guess we could all be upset about that :)

    Never owned a domestic vehicle. I'd have a 1960s F-series or Bronco.

I grew up in a Ford Family. My grandpa only ever had Fords, Studebakers, and Henry J's, for the short time that Henry J's were sold. He was a Ford man at heart. Had a 79 fullsize Ranger named Diamond Dick, that was full of rust holes, sounded like hell, but always managed to stay running. (I'll contribute that to Grandpa.) My Dad had mostly Fords in his early years- his first car was a '62 Falcon. He also owned several Mustangs, Pintos, a Tempo, and an Escort. I was raised a Ford guy as well. (The me from ten years ago would be trying to kill the current me, because of the way I talk smack about Ford now.) My first vehicle was a 1990 Mustang, with the little 2.3L 4-banger. That car was a piece of work, but I loved it, because I'd grown up with it. It was my Nonnie's car when she was still alive. After watching my old boss's F-150 burst into flames (sitting in his yard, not even on) and then a couple years later, my Mustang went up in flames, my faith in Ford was shaken, but I tried to stand by them. Then I found my Toyota and never looked back. They are cheap, readily available, long-lasting, and generally dependable. At this point, I consider myself a Toyota man. Not to say there aren't other vehicles I would own- I'd still love to have another '90 Mustang, would love to have a '79 F-250, an '89 Chevy Silverado, etc. But for all purposes, I'm a Toyota guy.

You only have to stick me in the eye with a stick one time and I'm done with you. That's the way I feel about GM and Ford. There was no bigger fan of Chevrolets and Buick's cars and Ford Trucks than me. What drove me away by the late 80's was their Service departments and poor build quality. Without getting wordy ( and I could speak volumes as to the arrogance of the service managers) the best way I can sum it up is that when you walk into a Toyota or Honda Service department you immediateiy realize you are not the Enemy compared to my experience with the domestics. The price GM and Ford have paid for treating me the way that did since 1988 has been approximately $ 140,00. in lost sales. Like most on this thread I work hard for my money and I will never through it down the domestic rabbit hole again and just as a last bit of truth to what I say they are no long known as the BIG THREE they are now called the Detroit three. The truest thing I learned in collage Business classes is the statement " It takes 100 times more effort and 10,000 times more dollars to get a good customer back then it does to Keep one.

The irony is that Toyota is probably more domestic than GM and Chrysler now lol.
But regardless, unless I am buying a truck for heavy hauling I'd never buy domestic. And I'd only buy domestic then because you cant get a heavy duty import. The new Titan might have the Cummins but its a Cummins ECO diesel. Not the proper I6 powerhouse thats in the Ram HD.

That being said, I have no need for that type of truck and I really only need a truck for wheeling and for hauling material for home renos.
Even when it comes to my car I prefer import. But I'm an Audi/VW fan for cars.

Regardless I'll take a taco over any other truck for the reliability.
Never owned a domestic but have plenty of family and friends that have, I'll pass.

I have been with Toyota since 1970 and have owned 5 Tacoma's and have a 2016 TRD OFF ROAD DCSB AUTO now. I might take a hard look at the Jeep Pickup when it comes out some time in 2017 or 18
It would have to offer a 4-Door

Do yourself a favor and never look at a Chrysler product. Being bought out by Fiat has done absolutely nothing to help their reliability or build quality.

I'll go domestic for a collector car. I'm currently buying my 4th, but not as a daily driver.

I looked hard at the Wrangler, but in the end the poor reliability reports kept me away from it. I wanted to get something brand new that would last me many years, and that's why I settled on a Tacoma.

I have been an auto mechanic now for over 19 years. 11 and some change with Toyota and now almost 8 with a huge used car dealership. I see so many issues with domestic vehicles in the shop compared to Toyota Honda and so on. The toyotas Hondas usually just maintenance and cosmetic issues. But I see 2014-2015 chevys with cracked dashes, bad control arms ford's with axle leaks and oil and power steering leaks. Don't get me started with Chrysler Jeep products. So for me and my whole family Toyota has always been the way to go. Domestic vehicles are better now than five four years ago but still is not the same as foreign vehicles. I worked on a 2014 Fiesta and all I did was replace the battery. Afterwards the vehicle would not move. It shifted into gear but nothing. After utilizing all my resources we ended up sending to ford and found out that the vehicle after battery change needs to be reprogram for the transmission pcm. Not sure of it was a random thing but imagine what a customer would be saying. Just my thoughts.

We did the exact same thing - was ready to pull the trigger on a yellow Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited, when I came to my senses and opted for my Taco instead - not looking back - very satisfied so far...was in my 16th year for my last vehicle, expect this machine to at least equal that.

I haven't owned a domestic but I've been a bit intrigued by the Buick Regal GS (2012-current) Turbo 6-Speed manual. Anyone have any experience with this car? They look friggin sweet.

Just for grins I went on the Edmunds.com site, and did an average appraisal on a 2006 Dodge Dakota Double Cab Vs. My 2006 Doublecab off-road TRD. I equipped them as closely as I could, cab configuration, V-6, auto 4X4, miles on vehicle, Etc...
The average trade on the dodge was somewhere around $4900, and Dealer retail was $ 9500. The Tacoma was Average dealer trade of $11,540, and a retail of $14,012!
That ought to tell you SOMETHING!

I am a 7 time Tacoma owner, and in Aug 2014 I sold my 06 and bought a 2012 F-250 powerstroke I will give it that it was the fastest truck I have ever driven, but the problem started with EGT sensors going bad shutting the truck down, leaking radiator, rattling doors. I put more money in that in the 12 months I had it then I did in my tacoma in the 6 years I had the last one. I traded it Dec 30 on a 2016 and will never look back. If you have a big ass trailer to pull you have no choice other than go domestic, but if you just dont need a big old truck Tacomas are it In my opinion. They all have their own faults Toyotas just seem to have less that most.
