Wondering if anyone with a scangauge knows what kind of MPGs you get when highway driving while in 4wd. Just thinking about that this morning on my way to work, and was curious.

In my 07 wrangler I actually got better mileage in 4wd (~1/2 mpg) according to the SG II. I only did it when there was snow on the road and there were no sharp turns.

My Tacoma is a Prerunner, so I cant help you here.

I guess. I'm not that concerned with MPG in my vehicles unless it's obviously a sign of problems (i.e. 200 miles = down to 1/4 tank on a vehicle that should have a 400mi range).

I think I lose 1-2 mpg, but it's hard to estimate. Usually its goin up a mountain road, so its raining then snowing, traffic slows then speeds up for speed zones, I use third gear on the steepest part of the grades, 4th mostly, and finally I'm only in 4wd 1/2 that time.

Thats why I want the scanguage, for a more definitive answer, but I'll still use 4wd the same way I do now. Fun has it's price.:)

(edit) U save fuel.... you aren't spinning out as much! MUAHAHAHA

Do you still have the 07 Wrangler, or did you sell/trade it to get your Tacoma?

Not trying to split hairs here, but highway driving should not be done in 4WD (speed should be less than ~50mph or so).

?? I'm going on 6th winter and few thousand miles in 4hi driving winter hwys with this truck. With snow tires generally still do the around the speed limit (depending on conditions of course).

I've found the difference 2wd vs 4hi on a long trip, there is little change in mpg. I can still pull 17-18 on hardpack snow, maybe .5 mpg? But if your plowing thru freshies, you'll be spinning more in 2wd and going much slower, so probably no difference. If you got 4wd, and need it, use it.

If the highway has snow on it, I'm in 4WD!!! I'll drive as slow/fast as conditions allow.

I get between 215-230 miles and I will still have a half a tank of gas left...I get an average of 410-420 miles per tank...I have a SGII and also running TRD CAI, DTLH, APR X-1 with tune...

its your driving habits that bring your miles per gallon average down...

Does the scangauge show an instant MPG? I would think it would not be perfectly accurate, but if the scangauge does do an instant readout you could check this real easily.

Hmmmm... I was led to believe (on more than one occasion)that hi speeds in 4WD wasn't a good thing. So driving conditions aside, 4WD is ok at any speed? No mechanical ramifications?

This is why I'm on the forum. Sometimes I don't know crap from Crisco.
