ordered some 20mm along with some 13/16" plugs. both of these will work on the top hole of the control arm drivers side. but they wont work on the big hole just beside the control arm on the passenger side. it will take something a little bigger.

yes i did those too...but the bigger holes like the one on the drivers side you cant see, you have to feel for it, it is located on top of the arm. also the bigger one on the passenger side that is like a 45 degree angle takes a bigger size also. the one on top of the arm that you have to feel for, i plugged to maybe help keep water, mud, and etc out.

You can pickup the hole plugs at Lowe's in their hardware section next to all the screws and bolts.

While the rest of the world gets to play in 3 feet if snow, up here in Canada i get to plug my control arms in +5'c degree temperatures. I prefer the snow to be honest

Guess I'll be heading to Lowes in the A.M. , when I bought the truck 4 months ago driving it home for the first time I heard the howl, thanks to those that went above and beyond to settle the mystery. Now I just need some sound insulation for my hood, that tick tick tick is driving me bonkers.:annoyed:

Definitely don't want to plug them. They need to drain and they need air moving over and through them. All you really have to do is break up the airflow. A couple of dabs of hot glue along the leading and trailing edges creates all the turbulence you need.

I only plugged two holes on each side, left the last hole in the lowest position open to drain...

I finally heard a whistle/howl/vibration on the highway going 70-80... I thought something was wrong with the truck.. But realized the strong cross winds blowing under the truck was causing noise similar to blowing over top of a glass coke bottle. I'll be tapping the mofo up now.

I was hopeful mine was cured after plugging said holes, but the dreaded howl was back on Friday in my OR.

It was a nasty, cold, windy day and she was howling at 30 -40 mph pretty consistently.

I'm going to try plugging the small control arm hole I left for a drain to see if I get any difference.

Well now I'm going to have to roll my windows down. And see what all the noise is about.

And to the op and bob, thanks for all the leg work with this. I know how big of a PIA it can be. I had an issue with my shelby that I went round and round with Ford and their engineering team with. It's funny how multiple paying customers never know what they are talking about.

True, but then you also can't get whatever TSB Toyota is supposedly planning on releasing to fix this "for real"

Same here, but mine is more in the 50-60 mph range and I have plugged up all the holes as the thread as suggested to do. I never hear it on the interstate (70+ mph).

You're saying yours is still whistling even with all the holes plugged?

I'm going to try plugging that next.

That is correct, I have all 5 plugged on the driver side. More of a howl (coke bottle sound) instead of a whistle. I did a recording on my phone, but all I hear is truck noise. Wish there was a way to isolate the howling sound.
