Hey guys, so I've been having some rubbing issues with my truck, and I'm trying to get this completely resolved. I have 35" tires and a lift somewhere around 5". The previous owner had a cab mount chop on both sides, but I still experienced rubbing on full lock. Today I had the CMCs adjusted and now I'm pretty much right under the mounts, so we can't cut that back any further. There is still some slight rub when turning full lock if the road surface is uneven, and it looks like it will rub pretty significantly if I'm going over a decent bump with the wheels mostly turned. I'm trying to come up with a solution to address this, but short of moving the cab mounts back or the axles forward, I don't know how I can resolve this. Does anyone have any ideas? I was searching for answers, but it seems most people aren't having an issue with the 35"s or are just accepting the rub. If anyone could give me some advice it would be most appreciated!

What's your alignment numbers like? Do you have aftermarket UCA's? Post a pic of your current cab mount.

I haven't gotten the alignment done yet, because I need to replace some tie rod ends and am still waiting on those to come in. I have DSM Uniball Upper Control Arms and will take some quick cab mount pics for you guys right now.

Well your alignment makes a big difference in clearing your cab mount by a 1/4" or not clearing it at all. Try to get them to max out your caster without messing up your other numbers.

Here are some quick cellphone pics: IMG_2496.jpg IMG_2497.jpg IMG_2498.jpg

It makes sense what you're saying about the caster, I'm hoping that will help when I get that done. I am clearing the cab mount, but only by about a 1/4 inch, so maybe the caster will give me enough.

Your tire will sit more forward in the wheel well with higher caster numbers. I would do that first then you can bang and chop what really needs to be.

That makes sense. Thanks a bunch, I will post my results when I have that done. Hopefully it fixes it, because if you take a look at that last photo, there isn't much room for additional banging and chopping :D

My caster is right around 4 degrees right now. Shoot for over 3 degrees caster when you go for your alignment. It'll probably show out of spec for a "stock" tacoma if they get it over 3 degrees but that's just fine/best for a lifted truck if the rest of your numbers are good.

Judging by the pic I'd say you have room to add caster. They look to be at the minimum position.

Thanks, I'm going to see how far we can bump that up when I get an alignment. Out of curiosity do you happen to know if there is anything in terms of aftermarket parts available to be able to run an even higher caster, such as 6 degrees?

SPC upper arms would be the only thing that can come close to that, but IMO that's too high and you'll run into other problems.

Cut more and bash the pinch weld back about 2 inches

spc arms won't help. when you increase caster with the upper arm, you actually move the tire further back.

Looks like you need a wheel with a little more backspace. Tuck it in tighter and have less steering scrub radius

Believe it or not I'm not rubbing on the pinch weld, just the cab mount, and that's pretty much as cut as it can get. It's rubbing on the actual cab mount itself at this point, so I don't think cutting would help. Very clean pinch weld by the way.

I actually have spacers on the wheels to prevent hitting the control arm right now.

Cut along the blue line, hammer the red circles, and then you should only be rubbing by the green arrow. and likely, once you cut along the blue line, you can hammer the green arrow and clear that spot up too. looks like all you really have to do is get a little more aggressive.

just got a simple lift on her
that will make you rub worse when you turn.
it makes the distance your wheels travel while turning more if that makes sense...

You max caster on the lower arm, minimize camber on the lower and adjust at the upper from there. There is a good write-up on here.

Like I said, 6* is too high and you'll run into other problems.

I think I'll try this next weekend to see if that helps in addition to the caster change. It will at least reduce some of the rub.

That makes sense, but it's a tadeoff. Maybe I can go down to a 1" spacer without rub.
