Is this a top down picture or one from inside looking forward. I'm mechanically challenged and disoriented.

I had the same thing on Leer 100xr. Leaking in front left corner. Dealer had it off twice and had all kinds of silicone, putty and tape. Didn't leak a lot but leaked every rain. They didn't want to try a third time so they refunded my money. Ordered an ARE from another dealer. Hopefully they will be able to get it sealed. Tents and truck caps shouldn't leak.

Maybe you'll have some better ideas after today.

I'll suggest this to the installer if they don't get this new one right.

 

It is sunny right now so I have gone out and had a good look at what is going on with the fit and noticed that the installer siliconed the front bulkhead pretty good but they have used foam tape to form the gasket which is now saturated with water and seeping into the box, I don'the know why they did not use a neoprene or rubber gasket that would not allow water through.

The inside of the window is also wet and there is water sitting in the channel at the bottom of the window, don't know whether this is condensation or the window is leaking.

The inside lip of the canopy on each side is also saturated with the driver's side being the worst at the rear of the truck.

I am waiting for Cap-it to get back to me on what comes next...

It does look like there is condensation inside on the front window that might be the source of the leak but the side window looks like it is leaking from the window.

I have had Leer and ARE before and I am not very pleased with the fit and finish of either brand. Although none of my previous caps leaked. I here people complaining about SnugTop too. For the money spent you would think they would have better quality control. Also you would think installers would know exactly what to do to install a cap on a Gen 2 Tacoma to prevent leaks.

 

I'm looking for some of that stuff ,, the weather stripping just like that

Other than the tailgate and the depth of the box do you know whether the forward bulkhead and side rails (that the canopy rests on) are the same design/dimensions in the 3rd. and 2nd. gen?

Trying to figure if something has changed between the two gens. that is magnifying the problem.

 

Here's my SnugTop that I picked up from a member here for pretty cheap. I had a new lock put in. It leaks a little but I'll deal with that a little later. I happy with it. No need for a rear view mirror now, that's for sure.

 

Just came back from installer ,, he has said they went above what most do as far as sealing the front corners and around the box,, he did order me a new window and has is waiting for some more trim that they are currently out of to do some work on the tailgate ,, he says that's why the rails are becoming saturated .. It's coming through to the tailgate here

I kinda did a similar thing by using 2 layers of cap tape at the cab end , one 1" wide on top of the bed rail to bring the top of it flush to the top of the front bedside and a second 2" wide layer of cap tape that spans the first and wraps down the front bedside edge similar to your pictured weatherstrip

 

If I get the song and dance about the problem being the Toyota Box I am thinking I might get them to take the cap off and then I will take the truck to a body shop and get them to waterproof/seal the trouble spots permanently.

Thinking maybe getting the shop to take the plastic cover caps off and silicon or fill everything to make the box about has waterproof as it can be.

I talked to someone in a big Leer Dealership in Portland today and they said the Tacoma's can be tricky to waterproof and the installer needs to spend some time on it so that may be part of the problem.

The Portland dealer also said that they have talked to Toyota about the issues with the boxes not being easy to waterproof and Toyota said if their customers want waterproof they will buy a Toyota SUV...

 

Do you really feel like it limits your visibility that much? I think mine barely makes a difference in how well I can see behind me and the extra layer of tinted glass is nice for helping with driving with headlights blinding you at night.

There are places in the states that sell gaskets for tailgates and beefed up gaskets for the front bulkheads and sides if your interested.

 

UPDATE: Just went out and looked at the weatherstripping.
My cap was replaced twice, under warranty.
On 2011/12/10, while installing the replacement cap, the same installer added a different weatherstripping, as seen below.
Apparently, most anything that will deflect/redirect the water below the front bottom edge of the cap, will do.
This one has a (Sealing) Bulb rather than a flap, similar to what is used between the bottom of a cap and the bed rail.

Sorry, I can't answer that one. Haven't really seen a 3rd Gen Close Up

Oh yea, I can't see a damn thing now. It was a problem before, I think 1st gens are known to have that issue. Maybe your 2nd is different.

I just noticed they have a special gasket listed specifically for the Tacoma difference between the side and front rails...

Another FWIW and @OZ-T will confirm:
In a structure, you can have a leak in the roof in one location and wet sheetrock in another location 25' (or 7.62 Meters for OZ) away.
In your truck you can add the turbulence between the cap and cab, created by traveling 60mph (or 96.56064kph for OZ).
The water could be entering at the center of the front bottom of the cap and draining into the bed half way down the side rail.
Hence...................
