The "Great Bear Rain Forest" was not a term ever used by 1st Nations, logging companies or the BC Government. It was coined by un-elected Environmental groups in order to start a campaign to raise money for themselves. A sympathetic, mostly urban media ran with it.
Interesting documentary suggesting the elimination of the grizzly hunt is reducing the number of white bears due to competition or predation.
Common Misnomer is to suggest Parks are good for bears. this is mythe propagated by groups like CPAWS when stats show it is in Parks that bears die of lead poisoning due to liability issues. If you love bears, say no to Parks.

Meh. You can always look at the negative or the positive. The positive is definitely that this agreement involved all interested parties and seems to of concluded with a positive outcome. The negative is that it all started with massive protests and tense, not always truthful, name calling from both sides and the whole thing was only negotiated because the industry was so hurt by the negative publicity that they had no choice but to show up at the table.

I prefer to understand and see both view points. Maybe because I work in a primary based industry too and I know how much PR really controls some things. I also know PR goes both ways though.

An 1000 km drive south from Atlin BC will get you to Ft Nelson, or a 1250 km drive down HW 37 gets you to Smithers. BC is a big place and I dont suggest PG is run by NGO's. You may have a different opinion if you went to a small town Land Use Planning Session in Northern BC (north of PG) and wonder who all these strangers in the room are. They will be reps from CPAWS, Round River Conservation Studies, Rain Coast etc all telling you what their plan is, which will soon be your plan.

There is no doubt that large lobby group pervade everything now. However, those lobby groups operate from both sides.

Anyone know if the Flathead National Park is still a thing in motion? I know I heard about it years ago and their site is still up... with that land being pretty much the only land not developed along the border in BC I would think that would be a priority at some point.

Why so much off-topic! This is awfully random. I have been trying to follow this thread as a Canadian and read about half a second of these paragraphs before going somewhere else.
