not much just half a quart. saw a difference right after it was added it is shifting a lot smoother, however the delay from R to D when cold is still there

Well i had them check mine before i left the dealer. Twice i asked and my dealer said the tech checked it. I bet it was just scanned. I dont have the issue yet with only 3 hundred ish miles. I hope they did mine right at the factory. I have several close dealers so thats good.

STILL HAVING ISSUES AFTER THE DEALER ADDED FLUID ?
One of you guys that had the delay and had the fluid topped off by the dealer need to go outside and try reverse to drive when its cold .
    Count the delay in seconds
This would have to be a member who believes the low fluid issue was fixed at the dealer by topping off the trans fluid
We need some kind of baseline to work with .
I just went outside and started my truck ....no delay and its 20 below zero . With this said I dont own a 2016 but I was one of the guys who had a low fluid problem with my truck .Although my truck is older , we share a similar transmission pump ,a similar manual valve , a similar transmission filter and a similar transmission pressure regulator
Not sure whats going on here with all these inconsistencies .
My gut feeling from what you guys are saying .............the transmission is still low on fluid .
There is a multitude of functions going on within the transmission during start up .
Without a baseline to work with , our conclusions will be effortless .
Toyota dealerships are Not going to hack this problem out . Thats what Tacoma World is for .

I have the tow pkg on my DCSB TRD OR 4x4. I'm not experiencing a delay from D to R or vice versa but I am noticing a bit of a clunk when rolling up to a Stop, particularly when vehicle is not up to Operating Temp, almost like a rough downshift. Also on the freeway the other day I noticed that the truck wants to stay in 4th gear even on a flat surface doing just 65 to 70 mph. It does not want to go into OD and the revs are up about 3500. It was cold at the time and improved once I got about 10 miles down the highway or so. Annoying.

I have 3100 miles on my vehicle and did not really notice this downshifting thing before.

You wont get overdive until the ecm verifies the transmission temp is warm . If you are sure the trans was warm , then have the computer scanned during a road test . You can watch the scanner and find out whats going on .

So that most likely answers the mail on the Overdrive issue but the Downshift "Clunk" rolling up to a stop when cold is normal?

Downshift clunk could be a number of different things .
Axle wrap , loose u bolts , leaf springs or possibly an accumulator problem within the transmission .
Start a new thread with downshift clunk as the topic and watch how many replies and different answers you will get
This would have to be diagnosed properly before any conclusions are made .
Not sure if Toyota addressed the loose u-bolt issue but it certainly caused my truck to clunk when it downshifted .
It was a matter of crawling under the truck and tightening the 8 u bolt nutts

Unfortunately this morning that was me.

It was a good 2 seconds before drive engaged shifting out of Reverse. Dealer added 1/2 liter on Saturday AM. Both Sunday and Monday AM cold shift from R to D were solid and quick. Today might have been the slowest shift I have ever had.

I am hoping this was an anomaly. I will post up at the end of the week how those mornings went... :frusty:

I think everyone with this issue should post their Build Date and Location From where their truck was built.I will be posting mine,I am at the dealer now.

Looking into the external thermostat . Its really the only thing that is different or has been changed between our 2nd gen and the 3rd gen .
When you shut your truck off at night , transmission fluid drains back into the pan .
Is there a drain back problem inside the transmission ?
Is the external thermostat thats built into the transmission cooling system working as it should ?
These are the questions I am working on .
Will edit this later when I get some answers
