Hey guys and gals...I have been absent for the last several months as I prepare to close on my new mountain house tomorrow! I will have more than a few trips back and forth hauling stuff. I noticed today that there were small pinkish leaks of an oil type substance under the Tacoma. I don't have time to research threads, but I seem to recall reading something about this....is this transmission fluid? Is it serious? The leaks are small, quarter size drips.....

It's coming from the front of the engine bay, so I am thinking it may be anti-freeze? Is the anti-freeze they use pink? I felt it with my finger and it wasn't water, felt like a very fine oil to me...didn't taste it......

Both the factory filled tranmission oil and coolant are pink. If its the coolant there might be a loose hose or you over filled it and it bubbled out (happened to me once) but you can check the level of the coolant and fill as needed till you can get it fixed but if its the tran. then i would be more concerned cause you can't check the level of the trans oil and you run the risk of over heating the trans. check under the truck and see if you can find any small holes that a rock could of done and around the oil pan for a broken gasket were the oil could be seeping out.

Yep.....Sounds like the coolant. Does it have a "sweet" smell?

x3 on coolant...toyotas coolant dries a light pink to help show any leaks...check your reservoir to see if you have any pink coolant left.

Let us know what it turns out to be. Since you said it feels like oil, I'm going with tranny fluid. Is your tranny automatic or manual?

Each time before moving your truck look underneath it. if the fluid presents itself again, look directly above to see where it came from. Hard to diagnose such things via the Internet.

That's my guess until I can get under the truck and look around....been too busy lately. Curiously, it does not leak all the time. I have driven a lot of miles since I posted the issue and I look under the truck each morning and I don't see anything. I think it is sporadic...

I just checked under the truck and no evidence of leak on garage floor. I drove for 3 hours last night. Very strange, it seems to be a sporadic event but this doesn't make sense to me.....there is definitely something leaking, why it is infrequent is baffling.
