Tapping the Dash Lights Circuit

Does anyone know what the label on the fuse diagram would be for the dash lights? I'm assuming it's the one labeled "PANEL?"

The reason being I'd like to tap into the dash lights circuit to power the LED on a switch, so it only illuminates when the dash lights are on.

Not near any switches actually. The switch is going just left of the steering column. It's the Access cab 2WD so there is a blank spot there for a switch. There are a couple plugs that I believe are for options that my truck doesn't have. They're wired up and everything, just not connected to a switch. I'm thinking one might be for a cargo light and the other... no idea.

 

Nothing. Just the two blanks. And yes there are two unused plugs behind the panel. Just not sure what they're meant for. One is small and square and has two wires, the other a little larger with multiple wires. They're just fit into a couple empty spots on the back of the plastic panel. I'm not sure what the other Taco models have here. Cargo light / 4WD selector??

 

I just used a fuse tap to the Ignition fuse 2 underneath eh dash and the switch led runs when the ignition is on, simple!

 

I thought about doing this too... but I didn't want the LED to always be on. So I figured tapping into the dash lights would make it so when I turn my parking lights on, the LED on the switch would come on with the rest of the interior lighting.

6 wires I believe so. I will confirm the colours. The grey and purple represent what exactly? Ground and dimmer?

 

My switch has 4 wires - Green (source), Red 1 (relay or accessory), Red 2 (DASH CIRCUIT), Black (Ground). Just wondering what that red 2 should connect to.

 

Excellent. So the ground connection can obviously be made to that OEM harness (or any ground really), and not necessarily the one on my light bar harness.
Hopefully this mystery cluster is related to the dash lights.

YEP that's where I placed my new switch (it's not wired yet - just placed in the hole). There are a couple groups of wires though. The button that's in your photo to the left of the offroad lights - the power button... I don't have that button in my truck, but there's wiring there for one...

 

Were you successful in finding the dimmer wire or fuse?

Get some TAP Mini Add-a-circuit Car Auto ATM Low Profile Blade Style

and 7.5 A fuses.
Connect into "PANEL" fuse location.
Black to ground or chassis.
Red 2 (or wire next to black) to tap mini as mentioned above (illuminates the switch when the dash lights are on).
Green and RED 1 can be reversible. One wire can connect to source such as thing you wanted to connect to. Other wire connect to relay or power. Think as green and red wires in a linear connection with mechanical switch in the middle to connect or disconnect.

I'm putting in a switch pro and need ignition and lights taps. The wires are coming from the engine bay so they can be under the hood or I can run them into the cab through the main gromet on drivers side.

 

For the yellow wire on the SP8100, I tapped into the TAIL fuse.
For the blue wire I tapped IG1 NO. 2.

Works like a charm. SP8100 control panel dims when lights come on and the control panel gets power when the ignition/accessories is activated.

I just want to make sure I'm tapping into the correct wires before I go cutting them. I already have wires 1 & 2 hooked up and my accessory works when I push the Toggle on. I just need to hook up the other 2 wires so that it lights up with my other dash lights. I guess the best way would be to tap into the cargo light switch? Here is a picture of the wires coming off of my cargo light switch the colors don't seem to match ones described earlier in this thread

 

Did you figure out which wire to tap into for the dimmer?

I haven't gotten around to doing it yet but I believe for mine I would connect the black wire #4 from my toggle switch to the tan wire ILL- #4 on my cargo light switch and the red 2 #3 wire from the toggle switch to the green wire ILL+ #1 on the cargo light switch.
