i recently lifted my 3G taco on a 2.5 front 1.5 rear leveling kit, I threw on sone 285/70/18 BFG KO2 tires and all seemed fine and the look was great but I noticed the top of th tire seems pointed a bit out. Sometimes going at an elevation dip to an entrance or something I hear the tire rub on the control arm since it is probable less than 1.4 Inch away at a normal stop. What are som solutions for this problem?

Did you get it aligned afterwards, or get aftermarket UCA's? And are the new tires on stock wheels?

Post up your alignment specs if you have the sheet. Did you have to do any trimming with the 285's, have OEM Mud Flaps? Post some pics of your truck also

Is it spacers and blocks? 2.5 is OK on 2nd gens with stock UCAs but I'm not too familiar with 3rd gens

Yes its spacers and blocks. I went back right now to check alignment since alignment was done when lift was done, not after the tires, everythng was in the green. So alignment is good. They checked it out and told me its not rubbing on UCA its rubbing on the LCA only at full lock and also when i go into a dip or a bump i also hear the tire rub against something, im thinking im Rubbing on the UCA

Spidertrax wheel spacers will help move the stock rims away from the control arms. Quick questions, when i put larger tires on stock rims they seem to not be balanced really well because i dont think the stock rims are designed for these at 7 inches wide. When I replaced my rims with a larger width size, 8 or more, it seemed to have resolved the shimmy issue I had.

Are you getting any vibrations at 40+ mph that feel like the tires are not balanced while on stock rims?

Probably needs wheel spacers with the stock 3rd gen rims to clear...same issue with most 285s on the 2nd gen stock OR rim, the alignment should still be ok even with bigger tires but I would let them check it again

thats exactly what i was thinking, then i figured well if im going to do that id want to just replace wheels with 18x9 wheels because if i do 17 inch aftermarket theyll look to small in my opnion.. but i just bought 285x70x17 tires.. so id need to sell them and get new tires too.

2.5" lifted on a 3rd gen is the equivalent to lifting a 2nd gen 3.5".

Ok so then it was not just me. I bought my tires at discount tire and he explained the rim width issue to me. Went with an 8 inch wide rim and the shimmy/unbalanced feeling is gone.

17" wheels are plenty big for our trucks. I'd say keep the tires and just get new wheels.

Should I go with 8 inch wide or 9 inch wide wheels then?
