re-worked...used it interchangeably with re-geared; while there are seemingly trade-offs I'm thinking that if it was geared lower it would accelerate slightly better from a stand-still although admittedly haven't dug into it yet to find out pros vs cons.

One can never have too many light bars.
Toyota engines as a whole will never impress anyone with power. They're built to last not to throw down epic 1/4 mile times.

To my knowledge, no one has the expectation of blistering fast times off the line. For those of us that like / need that we have 2nd cars to satisfy that.

I'm hopeful for more "use-able" power (yes, it's subjective) at low speeds...the gearing can be improved to provide that AFAIK...

I am not impressed with the power or acceleration of the 4.0. Both are adequate at best and leave much to be desired. Unless you really punch it, the truck seems slow and does not have a smooth delivery of power.

The transmission and axle gearing could be better. Fifth gear is almost useless unless cruising flat at 70. First gear shifts into second far too quickly under normal acceleration. 4.10 or 4.27 is where the rear end should be stock; 3.73 is a joke. I don't know enough about transmissions, but I have driven enough vehicles to know that the 5 speed auto could make better use of the 236 ponies.

Put 325/60/18 on it. Then it is a dog.
I still love my Tacoma. This is the second gen 2 I've had. The 6 speed mt has more pep.
