I'd definitely recommend them. I am very happy with them both on and off road so far. Another tire I liked a lot (on a Jeep XJ) was the Firestone Destination AT.

I've used them on some very muddy trails and I've never had any problems. Mud tires would obviously be a better option in those situations but I'm only off-road about 10-15% of the time so the trade-offs aren't worth it to me.

I hate to pick at a scab, but I managed to get high centered in I guess around 18-20 inches of snow. No ice this time. No broken straps. Things were thawing out at that point. Didn't even need a jacket. I followed everyone's advice on here, minus replacing the tires. I aired them down much more this time. I basically had to clear out the entire undercarriage and having a broken hand, it took a while. But most of y'alls suggestions were beneficial. I'm convinced that the skidplate works like a toboggan to get this thing off of it's wheels. Flame away....

    You're absolutely right.
The only times I've been stuck so far (snowbashing trails) are when the snow has been deep enough to high center me.
If the truck's weight is off the tires, it doesn't much matter what tires you have.

A shovel, a buddy, and a plan are always invaluable things to have:thumbsup:

X2 you did just fine. It's hard to blame a truck for getting stuck when any other truck would have done the same thing if it was high centered (like yourself)

No doubt that I was high centered, and with enough shoveling, I could get a Corolla around in snowy conditions. I guess I'm just surprised at how easily it gets high centered. I've had other trucks up to the hood in snow and made it. The tobbogan theory is floating around on some other forums. But then again, the National Guard got a Humvee stuck. What it all comes down to is that I hate the friggin snow.

I still say if you had better tires you wouldn't have gotten stuck, rogotoko. I live in the Deep South, so that makes me an expert on driving in deep snow. :burnrubber:

...some of the guys with $30k in add ons on their trucks proposed another theory. The theory was that I'm just a shitty driver. Lol. My Nissan Frontier didn't get stuck like that. On the other hand, I usually only got about 14-15 mpg out of the thing and the transmission sucked on it. The stand out difference is that I've never had a skid plate on any of my trucks and never gotten stuck in snow below the doors.

2010, in Baltimore City. Snow up to the hood, periodically. Another blizzard. The only thing that stopped me was a friggin Subaru left in the road. True story.

the type of snow has a lot to do with it too.

you can blast through pretty deep snow if it's cold, dry fluffy stuff. wet dense snow will compact and float your tires sooner.

you'll have to ask an eskimo the words for the types of snow. Rumor has it they have 30 or 40 different words for snow.

If its truly light powdery stuff the tires can get down to to road or compacted base and the problem is tires. If its not the light stuff it will compact under the truck like concrete. I had a little front wheel drive Ford with about four inches of clearance that would drive through the light stuff all day long. I was a ski instructor at the time and more than once went up the mountain before plows ran. And the entire unibody undercarriage was like one big skid plate. If we got 8" of dense stuff, or I got stalled in the wrong spot, it was a hours of digging just to move ten or twenty feet.

If you stuff enough snow under your truck to high center it the bestest most expensiveist tires in the world won't help you. The brand of truck ain't got a damned thing to do with it.
