Interesting read I found at www.torquenews.com

    Quote from article:
2016 Toyota Tacoma Sales Up Colorado Down Diesel Doesn't Help

"This was the month that the new Duramax diesel Colorado and Canyon trucks first appeared on dealer lots. Diesel truck fans take note. Sales declined when they were introduced, and thus had no positive impact on the company’s mid-size truck sales. Exactly as Toyota predicted."

I'd like to hear profit by configuration. I wonder why the author omitted an important part of the picture.

does turning tires to black wall out count? How bout added snug top rebel.
Too small a sample size to declare the diesel is a non factor. Also no numbers of how many diesels were purchased vs gas, and if that was the first month available no real data to go against. Also seemed to have misinformation with regards to the amount of trucks Toyota can produce.

Timing couldn't be worse. Gasoline prices are ridiculously low, diesel is significantly higher, and I suspect there is some push-back from the VW dieselgate situation.

My province has diesel at 5 cents a litre cheaper than gasoline. So about $0.20/gallon roughly.

I think it's the extra you pay for the diesel option when new. I know that would hold me back. 4-5k up here for a Colorado with diesel over the 3.6l gas engine.

The other side of the coin is that GM was able to achieve 2/3rds the sales of a brand new generation from the established midsize leader with a ~6 yr old platform they brought over from Thailand and badge-engineered; basically a Band-Aid offering in response to cheap gas and newfound demand for midsize trucks. If Toyota lets the Gen 3 Taco languish for a decade with drum brakes, fullsize fuel economy, manual seats, and the worst ride/handling in the segment, GM and Ford will eat their lunch once they have a chance to do a clean-sheet redesign of the Colorado and Ranger for the U.S. market.

The net result will be a win for midsize truck consumers; stagnation in the segment has not been good for buyers.

P.S.-In my town, the Chevy dealer is right across from the Toyota dealer. The Tacos are just now starting to pile up, but diesel Colorados might as well be Porsche Cayman GT4s right now (good luck unless you put down a deposit a long time ago).

Good luck finding a near by diesel colorado/canyon that isn't spoken for. When I looked into them, all the incoming trucks were orders or already had a deposit down on them.

This guy at Torque News is an idiot! It's way to early to make statements about the GM Diesel making no impact on mid-size truck sales. GM is selling all they can make.

Modern diesels are shit. If you aren't towing a trailer every day to a work site, then you're better off in the long run sticking with petrol because of lower running costs. If you plan to sell the truck 3-5 years after buying it though, once the warranty is up, fuck it roll whatever makes you happy. Just be prepared for nose-dive resale value.

At a $4000.00 premium over a gas engine, I can't imagine these Colorado diesels will be flying off lots. I could be wrong.

The diesel twins aren't even available yet. Every dealer around here is saying they won't even show up until summer.

A buddy of mine works at a Chevy dealer and they just got one in stock. I went from a full size diesel to my Tacoma, and I really like my Tacoma, but I will likely not own another gas vehicle after I'm done with my Tacoma.
