Have any of you guys watched these shows on A&E? OMFG.....

The Hoarders show is un-fricken real.
    http://www.aetv.com/hoarders/
Augustine ... blaming everyone else for her laziness/disease or whatever you want to call it. Sitting her ass on the porch while everyone else cleans up her shit. Ungreatful *&#@..... I felt like slappin her! (laugh)

The Intervention show - I've shed a few tears watching that.
    http://www.aetv.com/intervention/video/
It's sad but I'm glad these people are getting help.
In the "Linda" episode - the girl who snorted Propellants. OK - so I totally can't understand the situation, but I could've beat the livin shit out of her mother for even allowing her daughter to continue buying and snorting this shit right in front of her!! 20 cans a day she snorts while mom watches and allows it....WTF?? Jesus Mom, grow some balls and do something about it!!

I watched an episode of intervention the other day. Some 16 or so year old girl abused pain pills and the mother would drive her to the crack houses to buy the pills. How pathetic is that.
And for hoarders, my friends grandma is a hoarder. She has shit in her house piled up to the ceiling. The only way to walk around her house is the 12" path she has cleared to get from room to room. I think people that hoard animals is why more scary than just keeping junk. Those people will have 100's of dogs/cats living with them shitting and pissing all over the house. Most of them you can smell from blocks away

Hoarders is more disturbing and sad than intervention. there are very few intervention shows that i feel sorry for the person. every single one of those folks needed help before they got on drugs / booze and did not seek it.

the hoarders have a type of OCD. The do not realize that how they are living is wrong. Their brain is telling them to keep all the trash, food, clothes, pictures, etc. or they will DIE. Their brains are telling them the thier truth. Who do you believe more than anyone else in this world?? At the end of the day, the only person you can trust 100% is yourself. You are telling this person that their brain is wrong. It takes a TON of work to rewire their brian.

Also, while drugs / depression / booze can be helped / treated with other drugs, OCD cannot. there is nothing out there to fix OCD. the only thing they can do is treat the anxiety that comes with it.

She is not ungreatful... she does not think she is wrong. if you listened to her, she was being fed what to say. she did not fight back. she was just beginning to understand.

i was a psych major so i took tons of cool classes, including abnormal psychology. there is some success with shock therapy to cure ocd. the scary thing is, the researchers are like "well, we're not really sure how it works. somehow it resets the neurotransmitters in the brain". so basically they are doing something to reset your brain and have no idea how it actually works. we know more about the universe than we do about our own brains. this is why i love psychology. unfortunately they have to go and ruin it by making you deal with people on a day to day basis

I can agree with you if they have a legitimate disease. But sometimes I wonder if there's a hint of laziness involved. I mean.... Trash. Everyone knows what trash is and where it should go. You don't leave trash lay on your floor or counter for months/years. Is that laziness? Or a lack of short term memory to put it in a trash recepticle? And when you see it later on sitting in the same place - to 'think' about putting it away?

It's sooo hard for a normal person to imagine a problem when people look/appear healthy and normal. It's just a damn shame these people can't be 'recognized' and helped SOONER before things get out of control.

I think it's a great idea to have these shows - not necessarily for our entertainment, but perhaps other people can recognize these problems in themselves or other people and actually do something to get help.

yeah but we all have some issues throwing away some things taht are trash. ever get something that comes in a neat little plastic case or something and you know nothing else will ever fit in it but you cant bring yourself to trash it cause its cool? i've got alot of little trinkets that i cant throw away but i'll never use. my room mate is not a hoarder but he is a damn pack rat. we've had some drag out fights about straight up junk getting in the way of new stuff and he refuses to throw the junk away. stuff he will never touch again. its infuriating

I'm referring to trash - as in - packaging. Especially food packaging.
In those shows...you see burger wrappers sitting on the counter, empty foam boxes that used to have nuggets or something in it. Leftover pizza boxes with food still in it. Bags of chips that are obviously...empty or stil have chips in them. Or even packaging of products.... or say, tubes of toothpaste that are empty.

    That kind of trash.....

I def. watch both of these shows, but i don't know if its because i think its entertaining, or if its because its completely audacious at how some people can live, and totally disregard themselves and their families

There was a lady here in SC a week or so ago that died... they showed pictures of what her house looked like. Her son was her caregiver. She had to sleep on a love seat (don't remember what was wrong with the bed) but to get to the love seat, you had to wade through knee deep trash. The house was downright NASTY. It was just trash. The outside looked "normal"

It's weird....but my husband and I were literally hooked. I mean - we were pulled in and kept watching. I found myself shaking my head the entire time in 'disbelief'. That one show really fired me up - I just can't believe how stupid some people can be (Intervention show). I don't have any kids myself but it shouldn't take a rocket scientist to know what you should (or shouldn't) allow your kids to do. I guess...some parents just aren't that smart.
