im gonna get a straight pipe installed and was wondering whats the best sounding way to get it put on? with the cats on and straight pipe where the muffler is or vice versa?

i think i read if you remove the cats the check engine light comes on?

so just wondering about what you guys would do?

Umm I would def not run straight pipes.. will sound like shit. pretty much like a 16yr old kids civic. and you will loose back pressure and low end torque.

you can however remove two cats (one on each side) and that would be fine. but please please do everyone you live around a favor and keep a muffler on it.

I just noticed you have a first gen, Im not sure how many cats yall have so disregard the part about removing them in my prev. post.
If you want it louder you could run some 3" pipe if you think its neccesary, but Its overkill IMO on smaller engines.

I've got my stock cats and stock pipe up to the cat then after the cat i have 3" pipe all the back no muffler. i have the 3.4 L and for a v6 that's the best sound ive had out of my truck it sounds boss.

On the 01-04 tacomas I think they have 2 cats on the 2.7l. I would not run it without any muffler!!!!!! It will sound like crap IMO. Im running a flowmaster with factory exhaust size. It sounds great, but if you realy want it to sound good put a header on it with a good muffler of some kind.

If you stay around 2.25 or 2.5" you will be ok, I would run at least a glass pack. there strait through pipes.

I didnt say backfire from the cherry bomb:rolleyes: ....I meant from running straight pipes... and not neccesarily a sinlge loud "pop/backfire" but after you let off the gas you may get lots of "popping"
But i guess try it and see what happens, if it sucks dick then just slap on that GP:)
