I just noticed last night that the lights on my steering wheel audio buttons only work when the wheel is cranked to the left indicating a short in the wiring. Has anyone had to deal with this yet? I am a little nervous about going into the steering wheel with the air bag. Is there a simple fix like the overhead thermo/compass?(Thanks TW)

No to thread jack, but a question along the same lines ... In installing aftermarket audio equipment, is there a way of utilize the steering controls? I've gotten quite lazy... It should just be a matter of wiring up the harness correctly, right?

As far as the disconnect, do you think the wire could be damaged, losing contact when you turn the wheel? That'd be a pretty easy fix with some sodder or a quick connect, assuming you can find the break....

I didn't notice that mine did either as I seldom drive after dark but last night I was driving home on a dark mountain backroad and had to crank the wheel around a large rock. Sure enough the lights came on and went off again when I straightened the wheel. Tested it out in the driveway when I got home and everytime I crank the wheel, they come on and go out when I straighten it.

Do the controls still work when the lights go off?

Nevermind vi said mine don't but they do. I was confusing them with my doge ram I used to have.
