Glad I have 5 local Toyota dealerships to bounce allocations around. Found one that already had a grey DCLB OR with tow package being built 16 Feb, they submitted a color change request th QS that got approved with a new build date of 6 Feb from Texas . Hope to see it by the end of the month.

    Hi all,

I'm considering ordering a 2016 (will be my first Toyota). I want a DC OR SB 4WD with a manual transmission.

According to the Toyota site, the following configurations of that are available in California:
    - White or silver, without premium technology package.
    - MGM or Sand, with premium technology package.

(The premium technology package is heated seats, split auto climate, auto headlights, blind spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, and sunroof.)

If I order, am I limited to these same configurations? Or could I for instance order a white one with the premium tech package? I've noticed these limitations are regional (i.e., those are the ones for Orange County, CA).

I want to order through someone who can get me close to invoice price (as it seems from others here that is possible). Either the Costco-buying-program dealer down in San Diego (which I recall being mentioned here as $500 over invoice). Or possibly through a friend's Toyota vendor program (not sure on price yet on that option).

If anyone can point me toward additional info on ordering I'd appreciate it. One dealer indicated that my order wouldn't even be allowed in until March (I think they just wanted me to take what they had). That dealer mentioned there was an MGM on order that they could sell to me in that configuration....but for full MSRP.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

If the build isn't availble on Toyota site it doesn't mean it isn't available. It just isn't on their build schedule.

When I put a deposit on my access cab in quicksand it wasn't available either. The dealer had to order it as there was no current allocations available in the pipeline. Took Toyota 5 weeks to accept the order and 4 weeks after acceptance to put on the production line and build it into a group of trucks with the same color and like models. You have to have a dealer willing to accept and place an actual order and not just try to swap someone elses allocations. And you need to wait until Toyota gets enough of the same unicorns for them to reset the production line to run them. Can be a very long wait.

I have been following this thread for months. What I don't understand How the process is so different from one customer to another? Everyone seems to have a different story associated with the order they placed.

I would think they would have a standardized ordering system . The same for everyone. I would think dealers would at least have access to see the build schedule with Vin numbers for the month.

As if the wait is not bad enough ,the crap we go through is ridiculous. I have search the web looking for production information. I had better luck looking to see how to build a nuclear bomb.lol

Looking like it's going to be a long wait..I only ordered on January 19th. The dealer told me they hoped Toyota would accept my build in 1-2 weeks. Doesn't seem likely reading everyone's stories here...

    Sigh.... :(

I think it depends on how much metal the dealership moves for Toyota, if they sell a lot of trucks, they can request more allotments from the factories to move more trucks. With smaller dealerships, they may not get the same number or have current allotments filled with cars so you have to wait until something opens up, that's why they try to push the on hand inventory first. If they sell alot of trucks, they get replacement trucks more quickly than a dealership that might move more cars. If your truck is unique, it adds to the delay because you have to wait for the factory to squeeze in the unicorn.

you may want to see what the dealership has coming as well. I think this is what happened for me. The dealer had a red limited allocation already and I think they changed it to my build specs. I believe this is the case since my sales guy said this would be the first limited the dealer has seen. If you can order from a dealership that has a network in a city, you may have a better chance that they could change one of the trucks they have allocations for that are just spec'd without a person attached to them. That being said I am still waiting for mine to arrive at the dealer after placing the order on 11/13/15. It is now in G status as of yesterday so the end for me is very close.

I think a big part of it is that you are dealing with 3 different organizations (Toyota USA, Gulf States Toyota, and Southeast Toyota) and 3 potential means to "order" a truck. With GST and SET, they are going to be somewhat less flexible about how they can order, because anything the dealer does has to not only be approved by GST/SET, but then GST/SET has to get it accepted by Toyota USA. Within the actual ordering process, the dealer has 3 different ways to go find you a truck that isn't on their lot. The first is to go look at nearby dealers to find out if they can swap for one that meets your needs. That will get you the truck the fastest, and is easiest for the dealer. The second is for the dealer to change a currently allocated truck to meet your needs. That can also be fairly fast, but may be harder to get GST/SET/TUSA to agree to. if the truck you are wanting to get changed in their allocation is one they are reasonably certain they can sell fairly quickly for a good profit, they may not agree to change the allocation, hoping you will accept what you can get. The 3rd and longest way to do it is to do a special order of the truck you want. This is where people are getting the 8-12 week out build dates. And GST/SET/TMC are not guaranteed to accept those orders either. Add on top of that the fact that the dealers can only request allocation changes 2 times per month, and I think can only special order once per month, and you get a recipe that adds up to the wildly different timeframes everybody is getting for their trucks.

In my case, I started trying to order in mid October. The dealer looked for currently allocated trucks coming into their inventory for about 2 weeks and tried to find other dealers to swap with. Then they started trying to do a reallocation, and were turned down for both tries in November. Finally in December, they were able to special order through GST and got a mid February build date. Current delivery is set for early March, but we will see if that holds.

I got an email from my salesman today, my truck has arrived! Going to pick it up at 1 pm tomorrow. I sold my 2007 Taco in November and have been driving my 05 Mustang GT summer car this winter (which is actually a lot of fun in the snow), can't wait to have a truck again.
