well I definitely do not want to overfill the tranny but i am concerned about this slipping everytime the truck is cold. This does not seem normal, and the only way for me to feel good about this is that Toyota contact us to tell us that it is normal which i doubt

The dealer wont have any problem telling you it is normal. Trust me!

My truck is at the dealer now. I described the situation and he said he needs the truck overnight to check it in the morning.

I told the kid that the there are a quite a few owners are having this issue, so please check the fluid level and grease the zerks while your down there, because my main concern is the transmission has enough fluid and we don't damage it.

He walks to the engine bay and looks under the hood as if he was looking for the dipstick. I told him, "Dude it doesn't have a dip stick."

He said, "I'll take care of it, but try to stay off the forums because they don't know what they are talking about." Really, this from a guy who is looking for a dipstick on a sealed transmission? Needless to say this pissed me off.

Then he took my info, but did the usual begging routine for a perfect review. I told him, "Well it looks like you better take care of my truck then." Usually this dealer is pretty good, but this kid is new. I'll report back with their response when I pick it up tomorrow.

That's USUALLY pretty good advice. There's a few people who know their shit but you have to know how to sift through it all.

Mine ( TRDORDB4X4 with tow pkg) is scheduled for an over-night visit tomorrow night and check Friday morning, I'll let you know what the outcome is. My service advisor has been with me since I bought my 08 Fj, he has always been good to me. I'm hoping that relationship gets me a straight answer. We will see.

Don't count on the kindness of strangers , throw a quart in and see how it shifts then you either drain or add until problem solved. You should have a grease gun and shoot them up every oil change. One of the great benefits of truck ownership is the ground clearance to work on them. With you tube you can do just about anything. I remolded my kitchen and two bathrooms looking at videos which came out great. But in hindsight was a big mistake because Wifey now cant stop making me lists of projects ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Well I guess I better close my account here on the forums and go pick my truck up lol.

But I know what your saying, and this thread seems to be somewhat legit.

Oh yeah, youtube is a great reference tool. I'm extremely handy, but I don't think I'm counting on the kindness of strangers.

I paid good money for this truck. The agreement was I pay money for a new truck, and in return they give me a new truck along with a warranty. So they need to hold up their end of the bargain and address any concerns I have and service the vehicle.

Let's see what the dealer comes back with. But chances are, I'll still slide under there and double check it.

I agree 100% I didn't pay $30k+ to do this work myself. Although I am capable of doing it... time and resources are an issue. A brand new truck should not have any of these issues that should have been addressed during the PDI.

Picked up the truck today and they said it was 1/2 - 3/4 of a quart low. They also put on new drums and shoes.

One of the things with all these issues is if the technicians are doing dealer product reports on the issue. Not many do since they usually dont pay to do them, but its the best way for Toyota to track issues like this and resolve them. I picked up my 16 today and plan on checking the fluid level when I get a minute at work.

Had the same issue after topping the fluid, i think the only way to fix this is with a software upgrade

Underfilling is much worse than a transmission that is slightly overfilled .
New transmission fluid has anti-foaming agents for a trans that is slightly overfilled .
All I am looking for is one of you guys overfilling to see if the delay to drive goes away
If I owned a 2016 , I would do it to my own truck
For the guys that are still having issues after the dealer topped off the transmission , try overfilling to see if the problem is alleviated by adding a little more fluid .You can always drain it out after the test
From what I can see on this post and others , you guys are bringing your trucks into the dealer and having the fluid checked . The dealer is finding them low and adding enough fluid in accordance to the procedure yet you are still having issues .
At this point in the game we have to try something .
Go pull that overflow plug when its cold outside .....see if you get a little drip coming out
Pull it again once you are in temp mode ....see if you get a little drip coming out
Pull it again once the truck is nice and hot ... it should be flowing out the overflow plug by then .
These are some of the things that need to be hacked out in order to figure out whats happening .
Is it because of the tow package needing more fluid and somehow they were under filled from the factory ?
When the transmission was at the factory getting filled , was the transmission put into temp mode or is this skipped and they just put enough fluid in to get the trucks shipped to the dealer ?
Did they compensate for the external thermostat when writing the fill procedure ?
Why are only some trucks effected ?
As you can see there are a lot of unanswered questions and some of them are fairly easy to answer with a few simple tests .
Who wants to be the guinea pig ?

I have seen these issues before on domestic truck transmissions
2 wheel drive transmission filter is installed on a 4x4 transmission from factory
2 wheel drive transmission pan is installed on a 4x4 transmission from factory
4 wheel drive transmission filter missing the pick up tube .
Missing transfer case seal . All your oil drains out of the transmission and overfills the transfer case .

I feel that people should provide feedback on each of these issues directly to Toyota and let them do the experiments. Would i use my brand new truck to experiment, hell no. If i was having issues i would be a lot more inclined and if the dealer was not able to fix it after a second or third time i would most likely give it a go. It would be my last option.

Have tried many times to talk to Toyota case managers I even have a case # and no results. At this point don't know what else to do but I think the more people call Toyota and get a case # the faster we will see action from them

I emailed toyota, got a call back, and got a case number. Of course they sent me to the dealer and the dealer gave me the "it's normal" speech. I also filled a complaint with the NHTSB. For now I'll wait to see what comes down the pipeline. Like I said before, if I come to a complete stop before going into drive, it works fine. Fugg it.

Do you have the contact information to start the process and get a case# assigned? Or send me to where you found the info? Thanks for your help.
