Austin Area TW Chapter (all gens welcome, even T4Rs; heck, just make it a Toyota and we're good)

If you enjoy a brew or twelve be sure to walk 6th street. It's nice to say you've done it and you'll get w feel for Austin that way.

Otherwise, it depends on where you're staying, who you're with and what you're interested in. When I have family visit, we will typically take them biking around zilker park which is an awesome way to see Austin, work out and get some fresh air all at once. The main Zilker trail head stems from Barton Springs as well, which if it's 75*+ outside, they're open and your not a whimp, the water will feel amazing once you get over the temperature. Be sure to eat at the original Torchys, by far the best food in Austin. I get queso with a baja shrimp and a migas with bacon, incase you cared. Will be fine on a weekend but you'll rent bikes easier as well as have to encounter s lot less people on a week day.

If y'all off road in any way, take the time and hit up hidden falls adventure park. From Austin it should be An hour and a half?.. North. I'm from Cedar Park and it'd typically 45 minutes for me if I'm with Jeeps. It's THE off road park in Texas imo. You can rent 4 wheelers and dirt bikes, the people are awesome. Or, if you're determined, wheel your rental. Be sure to get video! If you're in the area, go an hour out to Coopers BBQ in Llano. Day tripper says it's the best BBQ ever, and well, its pretty damn good.

If you have deep pockets, head out to Steiner Ranch Steak House. The food will blow your mind (and your budget).

Besides that, I'd say look into musical events. There are concerts everywhere every night. Depends on your kind of music. If you enjoy country, be sure to never leave 99.3/98.5 (KOKE fm) depending on which has better signal where you are.

All this can be done in a weekend for sure. Austin isn't really a "see the sights" kind of town. It's a "hey look what I did" kind of town.

Thanks, this is helpful. I won't be able to off-road, I'll be lucky if my rental is anything more than a Prius.

I'll be using company money so I'll hit the steak house and BBQ, exactly what I was looking for.

On that note, as a born Texan long removed, I'm looking for non-touristy stuff that's more down home Texan... maybe some good bars that aren't frequented by foreigners (out of staters).

The Moontower Saloon on Manchaca road (Deep South Austin) is as local as you can get, has awesome food trucks, and live music almost every night. It's also not that far from I-35, and well outside the touristy areas. Check them out to see who's playing when you're here.

The only kicker is that if it's raining you're screwed - it's mostly outdoor. It's a fun place, though, and we enjoy the hell out of it. Lots of games to play, good selection at the bar, and did I mention the live music?
