MY 1994 CR500's were liquid cooled also. I think they started with the liquid cooled 2 strokes in the 80's.

In the late 90s to early 2000s disc brakes started. Somewhere in the mid to late 2000s they started having hydraulic disc brakes. They use mineral oil for brake fluid. Its insane. Some seriously high $$$$ shit.

I'm at the same stage of my lighting project - bracket mounted. When you relocated the horns, did you have to extend the wiring or just use the existing cables? What did you do for a fuse box mounting plate? Can't decide if I want to try and make one myself, or just buy one from one of the vendors on here...

Ain't that the truth. I worked for about 8 years as a bike mechanic. The cheaper they are, the more of a bitch they are.

I've been riding/racing dirt bikes for 30 years. I don't ever remember them not being liquid cooled. At least the race bikes.

It trips me up thinking that all the race bikes are 4-strokes. 2-strokes were always the most bad ass. The 4-strokes were for putting around in the woods. Crazy how things change.

I unfortunately never got into quads or bikes. Not for lack of desire just money goes else where. I'll eventually get a quad at some point.

I was always a 2 stroke dirt bike guy, mostly CR's but i had a couple YZ490's also. But as you get older the independent suspension, electric start, F.I., reverse and comfy seat that the quads offer now are nice necessaties to have when riding for 8 to 10 hours a day. I do love the power band of a CR500, banging thru the gears trying to keep the front wheel on the ground and the rear wheel from spinning!

I've rode quads my whole life, mostly 4 stroke, a few 2 stroke. The 4 strokes were nice for hauling stuff around the farm, 2 strokes were fun for hauling ass. My cousin just bought a Santa Cruz 29" mountain bike with hydraulic discs. That bike is nuts.

I rode only 2-strokes for 20 years. Then I got a CR250F. The new 4-strokes are pretty incredible. Like the difference between a diesel and a gas engine. So much torque right out of the gate. It can pull 4th gear from a slow roll without bogging down at all.

Just unclipped it from the radiator support, undid all the clips behind the headlight and aroun the battery, rhen just looped it back through around the batter and up the fender. Ziptied it to the rest of the harness in that fender. Had to clean the paint out of those holes to ground the horns because they wouldn't work 100% of the time until i cleaned those holes out. Used the same bolts that mounted them to the radiator support to mount them in that location behind the inner fender

Eventually i'd like to have one of those fancy bussman box thingys but thats too advanced for me right now. The light bar has an inline fuse and its own switch. It'll just get tied to the battery when its installed.

I'd probably get a pelfrey fuse block mounting plate ot make my own

Used to be everyone had dirt bikes. Now everyone wants side by sides and ATVs....they both really fuck up the trails for motorcyclists.

I started out on ATVs so I understand how much easier they are to ride. Totally different animal than an underpowered 310lb dualsport

Nice... i'll have to take another look and try to do the same with the horns. I was looking at the pelfrey mounting plate too - have ditch lights, 2 pairs of LED pods behind the grill, then some flush mount reverse lights to mount in the rear bumper. Id like to keep everything completely separate from the stock electrical system.

Sounds like you need to get on it :p

Could always go the cheap boring route and do the blueseas spod stuff, which works fine, i'm just told its not as waterproof or reliable as a purpose built box with a waterproof seal and blocks.
