camper weight

I am interested in creating a pulley system to hoist the camper shell up and suspend it the my garage. I am looking for plans and if anyone knows the weight of the shell for a 2002 six foot shell.

 

I have a system that works great!. I searched around for a long time and this is what I came up with.

By the way, a 6 foot fiberglass shell for a Tacoma weighs about 200 pounds or just a little less.

I use a garage storage system made by Racor. It comes with a metal shelf that you can load with boxes and then crank up to your ceiling in the garage. I didn't use the metal shelf, but instead hooked it up to a couple 2x4's. I slide the 2x4's under my shell then just crank it up to the ceiling.

Dont let the list price scare you. you can find it cheaper, just use google. I think I bought mine at Costco about 6 months ago. Not sure if they still have them?

It was fairly easy to do, just a couple things you need to pay attention to. If you have any questions, let me know.

Canopy / camper / shell weights vary among manufacturers (most of whom never post weight information).

A mid-height fiberglass shell for a 6-foot Tacoma bed typically weighs anywhere from 160 to 200 lbs.

 

Ha...ha.... Yea. Kind of a long story, but to make it short.... They are both identical trucks, 2002 TRD 4x4's with low miles. However one has a M/T, other is an A/T. I had the M/T first, then decided to buy an A/T so see which one I liked better. It was a toss up, as both have their plus's and minus's...............

...........anyway, I just sold the M/T.

I'm glad you found it on the Costco site. I was going to look but didn't get a chance. I thought that's what I paid too, but didn't want to post it because I couldn't remember for sure.

I like having a camper shell, but don't like it on the truck all the time. So, this system works well for me.
