60+ year old thread.

Saw two robins here in northeast PA on Friday. I really would love to think that spring is coming...but there's a lot of time left yet. I m looking forward to temps in the mid-50s on Wednesday! Enjoy your day!!

 

If that damn groundhog says ANYTHING about 6 more weeks of winter on the 2nd, he's headed for a barbeque grill!

 

Where I work out of town in Nevada, I heard my first Robin last week. No sign of them in Kalifornia where I live. About an inch of snow overnight, hoping to sell the old '93 pickup today. Weather has prevented me from delivering it the last few days. $1,000 towards the on order truck. Will be out in the garage playing with my camping stoves and lanterns. Got one of my 100 year old ones working better Friday, ran pretty good anyway.

Actually saw several Robins out and about the day before yesterday. 70* here right now.

 

Weather and roads were too slick, so the buyer never bothered to call me, I called him an hour after he said he would call me and he said it was snowing too much. Gol darn him. So I could make it home if I sell my old truck, I had to then load up my dual sport motorcycle and head for Nevada about 4:30PM leaving town. Roads were good until I had been on the highway about an hour. Things got slick after that, at least going by all the 4X4's in the ditch. I kept on truckin. So I gave the buyer until Tuesday to get the truck. I guess 4X4's think they are invincible (in the ditch) or too expensive (me passing them), judging by how many I passed in my little truck.

Evening all:
Been spending HOURS and HOURS reading predator hunting forums! Got that darn e-caller 2 years ago and still haven't used it, I most have made enough notes to fill a small paperback, hopefully soon I'll put them to use!

 

You are making it to hard. Learn how to make a sound with your mouth of a squealing rabbit or bleating fawn and see what happens.
Called in hawks, dogs, pissed off does and a fox that tried to crawl up my leg.
And a bunch of coyotes.

 

Read that lots of times Fred, and you are absolutely correct! It seems that just a simple mouse squeaker, or the sound made by kissing the back of your hand will call in quite a few coyotes.
What I need to really concentrate on is how to set up so I don't get busted. Back behind my house it is thick and has a lot of briars, I would probably need to hunt most of it with a shotgun.
On Sat. we went ice fishing on the local lake and there were quite a few coyote tracks in the area we were fishing, it would probably be best to hunt there at night after all the commotion dies down.
I have a buddy that goes out for coyotes here and there, mostly at night, but has never shot one! I should hook up with him, then it would surely be the blind leading the blind! He is an excellent deer hunter, but when it comes to coyotes he's doing something wrong.

 

Go out at dawn on a cold morning and call into the wind. they are paired up now for mating. Good luck.

BUT the house is so warm, hope that doesn't have anything to do with old age!
I still think if I put my one inside cat in a cage, and let her carry on like crazy, I could get something to come in! I've heard of decoy dogs, but never a decoy cat.
