No optic means no high speed internet. Well, I have my phone which is how I'm posting now, but that's not going to work for an NHL game without some major charges for data.

Yup. We got it a couple of months ago. It's been great. Someone at the end of the street ran over the box where all the lines are routed and screwed something up. Telus thinks they will have it fixed tomorrow. I can't blame them for that.

Looks like the Blackhawks took that one in the end anyways.

 

Hows the picture quality and the price ? I wish it was available in my area , I have Shaw Direct satellite and my tv only bill is like $120 / month

Ouch, that bill is crazy. We pay $89 + tax for our TV with 8 of their theme packs, regular cable, and HBO. Before this we had Telus satellite, we bundle everything to save ~$20 per month, which uses the same equipment and satellites as Bell ExpressVu. The quality of the Optik (Telus branded Optic IPTV) is far superior to ExpressVu. It makes a huge difference when watching sporting events. What I notice most is the depth of colour. With the same settings on the TV side everything seems more realistic. The lack of any blur out when watching the puck is crazy too. I think it's half because Optik is native 1080P where ExpressVu is native 1080i. The other half is probably the better/cleaner signal of the optical line over satellite. Oh, and that's probably the biggest thing. Other than this stupid little accident we haven't lost TV since it was installed. We lost internet once but that was due to some registration issue that was fixed in about 5 minutes over the phone. We used to lose TV 1-3 times a month due to windstorms, rain, or snow. It bugged the heck out of my wife because our PVR would record half of a show and then cut out. Optik just doesn't have that problem which has been a god send for her.

We got really lucky. Optik wasn't supposed to come to rural areas but they decided to make our community a demo to analyze the costs of rolling out Optik to small towns. I live right on the edge of town so we were included in the roll out. Hopefully they will continue to expand fiber coverage in the next few years as infrastructure spending increases.

 

Yeah , we have telus internet and phone so it would be nice but Optik TV is not available here yet
