just over 500 miles on the truck and im in the hunt for new tires. i have read a ton of different combos but havent found exactly what im looking for yet.

the info i have gathered is the 285/75/16 on stock suspen will rub the UCA a little and people are scared of wheel spacers.

is anyone running the 285/75/16 stock OR rims with the 5100s set at .85 still get rubbing and if so will how much wheel spacer would it take to not rub?

I really want the 285s but it sounds like people are liking the 265/75/16s on the stock stuff but i just want a little more tire than that just trying to see how much work it will take. I have had plenty of friends run spacers on jeeps without problems and while they arent ideal im not scared to use them. Im also running the 6 speed manual so the gear hunting isnt a problem for me and i understand the reduction in power I had 37s on my jeep with the stock 4.10s and did just fine

With or without a spacer and a lift you're going to rub at least on your cab without a CMC on 285s and larger. I don't think there's anyway of getting around this unless you plan on doing a 6"+ lift.

Cab mount chop. There are videos on YouTube. Basically cut metal from the piece that extends from the frame to the body mount to make room for the tire swing.

Anyways I think you'd be okay especially with a MT.

yeah i read his stuff again it looks like he went with a 1.5" spacer up front and talked about a 2" lift later, I guess i was more looking for if anyone got away with the bils set at .85 without an actual lift, sounds like it will have some rubbing at full lock but thats not a game changer i can live with some rubbing i just dont want to end up rubbing a ton during daily driving i can live with a little off roading, i rubbed all over the place with 37s on my JKU off roading and it didnt really bother me. Yeah being that i have the MT im not worried about the gear hunting that bothered other people

another option is looking to something like the cooper st maxx in a 255/85/16, no wheel spacers or cab mount chop required, same diameter just a 1.5 inches narrower. the st maxx specifically looks fairly beefy width wise for a 255. perfect middle ground. or go all out to the toyo open country mt 255, .75 taller than the cooper at 33.5 and maybe slightly narrower. dick cepek also just put a 255 in their new extreme terrain. there's a very long thread in the wheels and tires section specific to the 255 tires.
