I put up with non-adjustable seats in my gen 2, now have a 2016. After a long trip, I am agin wishing for more seat height. Being 5'8", I don't know how tall guys drive these trucks on long trips. I used a seat cushion in my '09,
I am going to try to raise the seat up or even replace the seats with power Highlander seats out so a wrecked one?
The lack of a power seat option was almost a no sale for me, gonna be real pissed if they put these in the 2017,,,,,,,,,,

I'm thinking the reason they don't put height adjustment seats in the truck is because the seating position and windshield is so awkward. I'm only about 5'8" as well and when I'm in. The truck i only have a few inches to the headliner. I feel super tall in the truck. The windshield is so small and half of what you see is the hood, and the seat is just basically sitting on the floor, to me it makes me feel awkward in it. I forgot how bad it was until I drive a new 3rd gen. Not sure I can get comfortable in it. Guess this is why I didn't buy a 2nd gen. Been a while since I owned my 1st gen but I don't remember it being like that or feeling relatively uncomfortable. I loved that truck.

Toyota might end up putting a powered seat in eventually, however I'm sure it will be very basic and will not have any height adjustment. Really there isn't much room. The taller guys that drive these trucks must have their seats reclined pretty far back

    Mostly stuff I built.
I'm 5'9" and the seats pretty good for me. I am the only one that drives the truck and I tend to get my seats where I want them and they never move again. So power seats is a non issue for means one less electrical component to fail. The only thing I would change if anything would be to raise the front of the seat about 1/4-1/2".

That being said most Toyota seat frames are really similar. They can be modified relatively easily if you have some fabrication skills and some mechanical knowledge. For instance I wanted to loose some weight in my Supra but keep the factory seats because they had excellent upholstry. I took a spin around the wrecking yard and found a set of I think Celica seats that had the same basic shape and manual every thing. Took the 2 sets of seats completely apart and made a hybrid set out of them and shaved down about 18 pounds in the process. Supra was used as an auto cross car and every little bit helps. So I would say that you could do the same with the Tacoma with another set of seats with the exception of adding power functions in stead of removing them like I did.

I'm 6 feet and I hate the seats. They didn't bother me on the 10 minute test drives so I didn't think much of it before buying. But 20 minutes or more and my back is hurting. I've bought a lumbar cushion which helps some but it makes a small seat even smaller in room. Hoping the 2018 will have a power seat I can buy.

Hey guys I'm 6'1" and have had several Taco's. The 3rd Gen truck designer must have been 5'5" and very short legs. The windshield on the third gen's is quite small combined this with limited head room and a high hood it really limits your visibility when driving. Add the rear view mirror and you have a very limited viewing field. I'm surprised it passed inspection. So your sitting in the truck and when your looking through the windshield 1/4 of your viewing screen you see hood! WTF! You can't move your seat forward because your legs hit the dash. Hey and why didn't they put a handle on the B column to get in this truck? And yes I hit my head just about every time I get into it......A lower seat or higher roof by an inch or two would have made a lot more sense. Toyota if your going to build a MID SIZE truck don't build the cab to SMALL truck standards! Get with the program! Well other than field of view, cramped legs and head room....its a great truck.....too bad you have to sit in the truck to drive it!

I agree that my 2007 had a much better seating position than the 2017. Is there a way to add power to the driver's seat? I wish I kept my '07 over the '17. Next truck will be fullsize GMC or FORD. This Tacoma has been a huge disappointment in engine, transmission, & seating. Sorry to say after 5 great years with my '07

Before you go any further you need to account for the airbag system, you can't just swap in seats from another vehicle unless the other vehicle has the identical airbag configuration as you truck does all the way down to the wiring and plugs.

I am also 5’8. Last year I took my 2017 from Manitoba all the way to British Columbia Canada. Never had an issue with the seat height. I also have the “scooooope”. Sucks that you need a booster seat :p

I'm talking to folks who posted as far back as 2016 on this thread, but I wanted to throw in my idea on this too..I've already posted recently about finding some nice black leather seats from a 2004 Nissan Maxima..Now, Evenflow threw a huge question here about having airbags match up and all that..So, I've gotta find a disagreement of his opinion there...I'm supposed to go back to the junkyard today and find the wiring harness from a Maxima of like year...Another post mentioned something about the weight in the power seats being an issue as well..Does anyone see these old posts ? They popped up on Google for me...
I have found out about the ill fitting cab dominions lately...Being 2021, maybe more has filtered out...But it seems that basically, the floor was built too high off the frame and the dipshits who engineered it didn't compensate at the roof...And the factory seats set way too low and too high in the seat up front ( under the steering wheel ) After many configurations, I have the rear of my seat jacked up 3/4 inches higher and left the front alone...This and a pad for my lumbhas pretty much eased my sciatica...But now, in 2021, with the frame lawsuits, the folks who have been left out of that ( total BULLSHIT from dealers ) and the way Toyota execs are stonewalling this, and other HUGE issues, mainly my SEALED TRANSMISSION, I'm seriously thinking of another line of pickup myself...I was all in until recently, now I'm beginning to see the balance of this entire issue shift.
