DCLB OR ride quality

Anyoneelse have a stiff ride in their DCLB OR? any time i go over a road imperfection (and some times when i cant see any) the truck shakes like there's no dampening on the rear end. i dont remember the ACLB OR or DCSB Sport being nearly this rough of a ride. Its bad enough that my GF complains and gets carsick on most highways.

 

Put some weight in the back and you should be good. Topper and maybe some sand bags.

 

Thats the next this im gonna try. but i dont feel i should have to carry sand bags (or water bladder or steel weights) to have a comfortable ride. its not the initial bounce that bothers me but that the truck continues to shake after.

cany find another one to test and my dealer has no idea what they should ride like. (doesnt even have another OR on the lot) so i have to wait for a toyota tech to come by. but i do know the ACLD i test drove was smooth as butter. This one was fine on the nice roads near the dealer where purchased it but once i got it up alittle faster it wasnt so smooth

 

It is a little stiff, but pretty normal for a longer wheelbase truck. The DCLB changes the weight distribution. On a DCSB, the rear of the cab is closer to the rear axle meaning more weight is supported by the rear suspension. A little weight in the back would help as TacoJonn mentioned.

 

What kind of tire pressure are you running? Could it be just hard tires?

Keep me posted on this . I plan on purchasing a OR 4x4 Long Bed. I need mine for hauling building materials. The Short Bed does not cut it for me, but this long bed ride concerns me.

 

Sounds like worned or dead shocks to me. If the vehicle keeps bouncing afterwards it's due to warned out shocks.

 

My DCSBOR 4x4 is rides amazingly smooth. My previous commuter was an infinity g35 sedan and this truck is not far off in ride quality on the highway, and I feel like that's saying a lot. With that being said to the OP this is a truck with solid axle rear you were expecting?

 

First, we need to know if this is the first truck you've ever owned/driven extensively.

 

My access cab offroad has the long bed and it rides pretty smooth but I can tell the ride of the Goodyear's is not high on my list. I've always been a fan of Michelin's and BFG's they ride smooth. You might anti up for a road force balance on the tires.

this is the 1st truck Ive owned. that said, i have put around 1000 miles on my buddys gen2, and taken shorter rides in a few newer gen2s with coworkers. My buddys isnt a fair comparrison though is as its...worn in.
It could just be the difference in the geometry of the DCLB but its nothing like the ACLB OR i drove. That was soft as could be. Since ill never find another one to drive (sport maybe, not OR), i figured id ask here for others experiences.

 

I think my long bed rides very smooth but I've been driving a 3/4 ton long bed GMC for the last 34 years so this suspension is like heaven to me. I did notice when I picked up 250 lbs of water softener salt last week and loaded it right on the end of the bed that the "truck like ride" was dampened considerably. Might be worth your time to just throw 50 or 100 lbs in the back to see the difference in ride quality. If the bounce doesn't go away then I'm with the above poster that this could be a shock problem.

 

Sounds like OP should pull the shock for a quick manual suspension check. If you aren't comfortable with it, you could always ask the dealer to take a look at the rear shocks next time you're in. It wouldn't be the first time a new vehicle has come with a blown or defective shock.

Check your tire pressure. Specs are in the drivers door jamb and owners manual.

 

I have a DCLB TRD OR and it rides great. I hit speed bumps with no problem. Highway ride is fairly smooth. Off road with dirt bikes in the back it handled well too. I'm used to driving trucks and this truck rides pretty smooth compared to some

 

The OR shocks make a difference as well. The bed length should actually make a little smoother ride on normal roads then the shorty but if lots of bumps and stuff those OR shocks ride different.

 

Every time I see a DCLB in a parking lot the driver is doing all kinds of pulling forward then backing up several times just to get into the space. Must suck always having to do that whenever you park.
