This is a waste of time. Diesels aren't available because they don't sell. They do not make sense for the average truck buyer. A 4 cylinder gas engine will give better performance than a small oil burner. Buy a 4 cyl and fart around, and you will as good mileage as a small diesel, and not have all the dis-advantages of a diesel. Maybe this law will keep some of these mobile smoke generators off the streets!

Yup. Every manufacturer is just ignoring the better technology....... Right. And wow, 30 - 40 people from this site might buy one.....You know, there is currently more members than that in the "Flat Earth Society"

It will lose in the most important category...price. This is the biggest reason there aren't more diesel models available.

Yeah, except every manufacturer makes and sells diesel variants of their cars overseas and they sell great due to being very economical on fuel. They don't bring them over here mainly because of California's restrictions.

They may be fuel efficient but they're not particularly clean. Personally I'm in favor of strict emission standards.

2010 Toyota Hilux Gets More 2.5-Liter Diesel Power, Higher Payload Ratings

    December 8, 2009

The Toyota Hilux's vaunted 2.5-liter D-4D diesel engine is getting some extra power for 2010. The additional juice comes in the form of 24 horsepower and 13 pound-feet of torque, pushing the 2.5-liter diesel's final output to 142 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque. The Hilux can thank the diesel's new high-output turbocharger, revised fuel injectors, and upgraded pistons.

Compared to the Hilux's topline 3.0-liter D-4D, the 2.5-liter variation is not far off in terms of performance. The 3.0-liter diesel is currently rated at 169 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque, good for a 0-62 mph sprint time of 12 seconds. The 2.5-liter Hilux now boasts a 12.5-second 0-62 mph time, up from 15 seconds in its previous form. Emissions and fuel economy are likely the same: 0.78 pounds of CO2 emitted per mile driven and 28.4 mpg combined.

What I found for all the pinko's from Cali. There's no drop in sales for Australia, South Africa, and Great Brittain. They even have the real toyota's . Land Cruizer 4.7L Diesel. There's more Tractors in the US then the rest of the world. Go tell those farmers to start using gas , you'l get a boot up your arse.
    I'll sign the petition budy.

A stock cummins diesel will not even out accelerate a 4 cylinder Toyota Tacoma, Never mind a similarly equiped 8.1. (get your facts straight!)
In commercial applications, diesel is king, for light duty, it is slower, noisier, way more expensive, pollutes more, and the current crop of diesels from Ford and Chevy, do not get the traditional mileage associated with diesels. Gas engines that are lacking in horsepower, (similar to most diesels), can achieve similar mileage to a small diesel. If gas engines go turbo, and direct injection, they would be on par mileage wise, for a lot cheaper.
And as it applies to smog testing, gasoline engines are easily made very clean. I don't buy into the climate change hysteria, but diesel soot is an obvious form of pollution, and very objectional at that.
