If these buyers didn't like the interest rate Toyota offered them, and they thought they 'deserved' a better rate, why didn't they go to a different lender to finance their purchase? Also, why did they sign on the dotted line to begin with? Common sense and individual accountability matters...

I don't see this as a dealer problem. This is a negotiations problem.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau said the lender hadn’t “intentionally discriminated against its customers, but rather that its discretionary pricing and compensation policies resulted in discriminatory outcomes.” Meaning that even though Toyota’s markup policy didn’t inherently discriminate against some people, it did allow dealers to vary prices. And that variation increased when a person was black, a Pacific Islander, or Asian.

Toyota is not the only auto lender to be investigated for this practice. Recently, Honda's lending arm and a couple of U.S. banks have all settled with the bureau in similar cases.

Much ado about nothing IMO. As stated earlier a person that doesn't know how to negotiate or say no and walk away will always be the one to take it in the shorts. It has always been this way and will always be this way.

I think it is ironic that they state Toyota is discriminating against Asian buyers...

    Really?

Can people get any more ridiculous???? These people need to learn how to negotiate, find another lender, pay cash or stick with their current ride. I mean come on, I just bought my wife a new car. I spent three months negotiating the price and rate, including getting kicked out of one dealer for negotiating too much. If these people don't want to negotiate and find the best way, all the power to the companies. Charge what people are willing to pay. It's the buyer's responsibility to know if they are getting a good deal and are happy with it. End rant.
