bah-humbug. I like the drums. i think they are pretty simple/easy to work on. cheap too.

i did blow up the internals once on a wheeling trip in texas, to the point that we had to cut the drum off, but the fact that i could implode a drum brake and still drive the truck home keeps me pretty happy with them

How did you drive the truck without a brake drum? Pinch off the brake line?

yes. plugged the line. pro tip: If you remove the bleeder screw, it will thread directly into the fitting on the end of the disconnected brake line, capping/sealing it off. great alternative to the vise gripe/hose clamp method.

took all of the internals out of the drum housing, brake cylinder and all, and then put the drum back on, so that the wheel would seat correctly when bolted up.
other than the parking brake being useless at that point, you really couldn't tell that you were short a rear brake. drove around like that for about a week until I could get the new parts in.

Finally got around to building a steel rack for the garage. Pretty much had too after getting ten 24' long sticks of 2" square and two 24' long sticks of 3" square delivered yesterday. Cut it all down to certain lengths in the driveway with the portable band saw and stacked it up. Solid as a rock. Built the rack from 2x3x3/16 rectangle tube. Have another ten sticks at 24' long of DOM and ten more HREW coming next week. Im so smashed for space!

as you wear down the drum over time, a lip forms on the outer edge. with properly functioning brakes, unless the brakes are applied, the shoes retract and the drum can be easily pulled off. the part of my brakes that broke, caused the shoes to spread out, as if the brakes were being lightly applied. so when we tried to pull the drum, the shoes caught that lip, making it impossible to get the drum pulled more than 1/4'' off the hub. we cut the drum, and hammered a pry-bar in the cut, which spread the drum out enough to get the lip over the shoes.

They are in flawless condition. Only reason I'm selling them is to order them in red to go with my new trucks accent colors. Bronze and blue don't go as well as bronze and red... The switch body's alone are $10 each.

Looking in my eBay history, it looks like I got them in June of 2015 from a seller called spoonzauto, and they were "black," not "smoked." It doesn't appear spoonzauto sells them anymore. I paid $175 at the time. I see other sellers are offering them for less now. Simple install.
