27mm is about 1 1/16th" What other tool are you getting? A 1 1/16th" 6 point box end wrench would not strip or round off a 27mm bolt.

The 27mm is to hold the cam-shaft better than an adjustable but I dont think it will be needed. The other tool is a snap on subaru specialty tool. It's a dual ended 6 point wrench (help keep from stripping the bolt). It was made to withstand the high-torque needed to break loose the cambolts on the subies. It has a 17mm and 19mm end so it will work perfect for the taco as well.

Well, everything is arriving today! Christmas!!!! I will try to break the cam bolt loose tonight by myself but I am guessing I will need assistance to get it.

The snap on tool was awesome. I have been applying wd-40 to it though. No cheater bar necessary. Now, the next issue is this chain. I released the tensioner but it is still tight...

Tomorrow is a busy day! I finish with classes at 9:50. I will probably go to the gym and then head home to finish assembling the snow bike. Ill read up on what the next step is for the truck...that chain is going to be a tricky bastard. Hopefully I will finish everything by saturday night so I can enjoy some superbowl food!

By "finished" do you mean that the head is removed?

That the new valve seals are on and the truck is put together. Assuming I dont see that there is a serious problem.

Rode the bike for the first time. Around a few blocks. This thing is fun! I had the tires at 10psi. Hills suck, but that was expected. I'll install the new gears tonight to fix that problem.

Problem! Well, nothing bad but I can't proceed without some advice. I am at the point where I am taking out the valve seals. I made a crucial mistake as I was overjoyed with the idea that I made it this far. I grab the tool and everything goes smooth. Then it dawned on me...I didn't compress the cylinder :frusty:. I had planned on using rope but I didn't think about the timing chain. It is still connected to the crankshaft sprocket. If I do the rope method i have to manually crank the engine. Would that not move the chain? Ideas?

Researched and as I thought, I won't be able to pressurize cylinder 2 and 3 without partially reassembling to the point that I can manually turn the engine to get them TDC. Since the problem is located on my 4th cylinder, I might just finish 1 and 4. That should fix it if this is actually the problem.

Ok, talked to a rental place. I can rent an air compressor tonight between 4-5 and only pay for a day but get it or the weekend. $20. Going to do that but now I need to find out how to compress the cylinder with it.

Well, we are back at turtle speed!

I scavenged an air compressor from @FreidTaco. Thanks again! But I can't locally source the parts needed to put air into the cylinder to compressed it. So, Amazon prime 1 day shipping it is! That is literally the last piece of the puzzle. Not sure what else could actually hold me up. The only thing that can go wrong is putting it back together. Getting the timing chain on may be harder than I think.

Question, I have a fear that it is worse than valve seals...just way to much smoke for me to believe that could be the only issue. My guess is a bent valve in the 4th cylinder. If I pressurize the cylinder, will I know if that is the problem?

If I do find out it is a bent valve, what is the logical next step? Head job with the cams out? Probably be easiest/quickest to buy a new rebuilt one to swap in?

You'd have to take the whole head off if the valves need replaced. And you'd have to shim them just right too. Which i have not done. So can't say how bad it would be.

At that point wouldn't I just take it to a machine shop and have them do it? Or purchase one already rebuilt such as this http://www.ebay.com/itm/TOYOTA-TACO...ash=item232e297227:g:DPcAAOxyPc5SBQBu&vxp=mtr

This one is pricey as I believe generally it costs around $500 to have a shop do it. However that can take weeks...

Yea shops can take a very long time. There is one outside of Cody that is super good though and fast.

Could just buy a new one then rebuild yours and sell it too.

How I am keeping tension on the chain. I tied the 550 cord to the chain before removing the cams. As I removed them, I pulled on the rope to keep tension. I tied in two places just in case one fails.

You can see the first valve I started to mess with before I caught my mistake.

How I organized the rockers and such. I have them labeled by cylinder as well. Everything is wrapped in plastic cling wrap (you can pick up a big roll for packing from wallyworld). This keeps everything snug so if I somehow knocked it over the pieces will stay in place. Also prevents any dirt getting onto the cams and pieces.
