Yup. Pretty much par for the course. My Drop ceiling is all mains and 2ft tees not a single 4ft tee was used.

 

I saw those Ridgid boxes at HD. They look really nice.

 

Ooooh. The little bag that came with my new Makita set is lame. One of these would be nice to hold the set plus a few cases of bits/driver sockets/accessories

 

Speaking of Rigid, I'm shopping for a new shop vac. I hate my 12 ga 6.5 Shop Vac that I got "for free" as a corporate anniversary gift several years ago. I've come to loathe it more and more over the years for its bulkiness and crappy design.

I need something with 2.5 inch hoses and adequate power to do lightweight sawdust collection (via Veritas Cyclone collector), but I also want the least bulky, best designed unit with built in accessory holders.

This looks promising (haven't surfed beyond HD and Lowe's yet).

Anyone have this one or have other units that fit my needs?

 

Get the big stainless drum one

 

Why? Big sounds bigger than I want. Really want something that can fit under a bench.

Its not that big but its super powerful and has a good capacity for when you're not using it with the Cyclone set up , I've had mine for about 12-13 years , still works great

Yeah that's the same model as the one I found. Just not sure I need such a workhorse. Not like I'm milling a million BF of lumber a year like you, and although the tall form has some advantages, I really like the idea of a more compact form I can roll under a bench.

But good to know you had it that long and it's reliable.

Yes, yes, "but it goes to 11." The one I have now is 6.5 (so says the sticker), but that is its only virtue. Going down to 5 does give me some pause.

 

All those numbers are bs anyway.

Yeah, that's why I said "so says the sticker." I haven't checked amperage yet.

Do you have a severely clogged pleated paper filter? Those things are a PITA. For my light duty purposes, I think I'll start using bags for most tasks, unless doing sawdust (except sanding), in which case I'll pass through the cyclone first.

a few months ago I was carrying mine out of the unfinished quarter basement after a sewer issue, and just with a few gallons of wastewater in it on a very cramped, steep staircase with low head clearance, I thought, WITF do I have such a big stupid vacuum. No need for that much capacity, but more power is good.

 

I have that plastic Ridgid shop vac (or atleast a very similar one).

What is the advantage of the cyclone instead of just the shop vac its self? Just to keep the sawdust out of the filter? And in a different container?

Same cyclone thing oz posted a while back?

Went back and clicked the link and read the description. Pretty much answered my questions. And it's not that expensive either.. Might get one myself

 

I use the 24' Lee Valley hose a lot so more power is better
