Driving in the wind!!

On my way to work i noticed the wind was blowing me all over the road. These trucks seem horrible on windy days? Granted i was driving a Tundra before this and it weighted alot more...But this morning i had both hands on the wheel To kee it in the correct lane at 65MPH...Anyone else notice this?

 

For sure. I get pushed around in the wind, even moderate wind. I've actually thought WTF? before realizing my truck wasn't possessed. I drove an F body Camaro before this (year 2000) and the wind hardly had an effect unless it was hard and directly perpendicular to the vehicle. Must have been the Aerodynamic design coupled with a long body and a low wide stance. Much stiffer handling too kept that thing from wandering around.

I'm guessing it's just height and weight of this truck. And it's adventerous spirit. You could drop it or space the tires out. But I've just learned to hold on. Based on your avatar pic, you should know how to do that.

 

Yes. I had a little drive from the SF bay to sacramento last weekend and it was windy and the truck got squirley. At one point I had my steering wheel pointed about 5-10 degrees to the right just to keep it in a straight line and was holding this angle for what seemed to be 30 seconds at a time. But once we loaded my friends CB175 on the back it squirmed a little less. I like your bike BTW, HONDA bikes FTW!

 

CB175? Little Enduro bike? I approve of your reckless hobbies as long as you keep the Honda wing off your Taco ah Kidding, wish I could trust myself on a street bike.

You could always throw sandbags in the bed for those longer highway trips

 

try kansas with the Bestop on the back. I felt like I was driving a pirate ship

I found running 31-32psi with my bfg at's help with the wind a lot....

 

I make this drive all the time are you talking about the carquenes bridge and the stretch of road before i80 cause i know what you mean, all over the place on a windy day... way worse in my 99 f150 at 10 of lift though

I want to try to talk the "Sock' into making my avatar...but ya know how he is...I took like 5 minutes to make it. Now i want someone with more photoshop skills to touch it up make it nice and clean

 

My bad, actually it was a CB160. Some guy from Tahoe built a custom little cafe bike for my buddy. I thought it would make the trip back worse with all the wind we encountered getting the bike but it did help weigh down the bed a little.

I really notice the wind too, from any direction but esp from the side.

i get pushed by the wind as well. the one thing that concerns me more is the movement of the hood. if you look closely at the sides of the hood while driving in windy conditions it looks as thought it wants to come right up at you. i find myself preparing for the worst.

 

I've owned many trucks and SUV's. This is no better or worse than they were.

 

just ment it as in, you weren't making custom decals anymore...I suppose it didn't sounds very good.

 

It has a lot to do with the height of the vehicle. We had a 1990 Honda Civic 7 years ago, then moved-up to a Toyota Echo, enoooormous difference in wind, it was pretty much all over the place compared to the old Civic, then we moved-up to a Yaris, which is better than the Echo, it still moves a bit, but not even close to the Echo.
So considering the height of the Tacoma and the surface area the wind can blow on, it's just normal.
It's a little price to pay for awesomeness.
