Isn't that the little country from Back To The Future that harbors terrorists? Maybe we should get a flux capacitor and steal the oil from them before they can cut production.:)

First of all, don't get your panties in a bunch just because of one bad day on the market. Interesting that I don't see any threads over the last few weeks when oil goes down $4 or $5 dollars (it has a few times). Matter of fact, oil is down some right now in overnight trading (check Bloomberg.com).

Most experts think either after the Olympics (China is hording oil) or at the end of the summer we'll see a significant reduction. Who knows, but I do know that gas is the same $3.89 it was almost 3 weeks ago here.

Here's a scary stat: If oil prices hit $200/barrel (I personally don't think they will), gas would be approx $6.50/gallon. That's based on the percentages we've seen over time.

Drill here, drill now. Pay less. That's the answer.

The benefits of that will take a long time to make it to the pump price. Even McCain disagrees with you on the immediacy of the benefits of more offshore drilling.

“I don’t see an immediate relief, but I do see that exploitation of existing reserves that may exist, and in the view of many experts that do exist off our coasts, is also a way that we need to provide relief. Even though it may take some years, the fact that we are exploiting those reserves would have a psychological impact that I think is beneficial.”

You would be much better off pushing for more regulation of the oil futures markets. Maybe a rollback of the Enron Loophole. Seems nobody in congress wants to do that, because they are all bought and paid for by Wall Street and the oil companies.

Price avg goes up to the next mark another crapload of punks say "F-DIS MAN I DUN WANNA LOOS MY CIGARETTE MONEE_HEY BOO!! GO GET ME MY CORDLESS DRILL"

what I find funny is that they were saying back around 2000/2001 that we should look out because Europe is paying out the ass for gas and now we do. It is odd how it took decades to get to $1.20 a gallon but took 7 years to over triple. I also find it funny how "speculators" are able to drive prices up too. It was just reported that there is an investigation going on that is linking speculators to a falsely inflated price of more than $20 a barrel. Smells like Enron to me.

I don't care what McCain thinks. I disagree with him about 40% of the time. But, he actually does agree with me in that he realizes that speculation is a major factor in world oil prices and if Congress would repeal legislation preventing us from drilling our own oil, prices would go down immediately. So yeah, there would be an immediate effect. The couple of oil drilling experts I've seen have said, AT MOST, it would take 5 years to pull oil out of the hardest to reach places, 1-3 years for areas with an existing infrastructure (the Gulf).

Regulation of oil futures markets is ridiculous. When did government regulation ever do anything beneficial? "Hi, I'm from the government and I'm here to help." The free market should stay free.

I do agree with your statement "bought and paid for". Doesn't matter which side of the aisle they are politically, they all answer to someone other than who they should: their constituents.

Of course you're right. We're going to end up driving around Tacoma's with tank armor.
