It's not a subcompact. The Guide rod replcement you are reffering to is a Lasermax. :)

I've had an XD in 40 S&W for about a year I guess. Awesome piece. A little late for advice to the OP but I decided by test shooting. There was an indoor range back in NC that rented out guns as long as you bought the ammo. The majority of them were 9mm but I was more comparing feel. Shot Glocks, Sigs, adn something else I can't remember. XD was the best feeling and the only one that didn't jam. Also I used the same brand ammo throughout. If such a range is available, it's well worth the time and money.

I shoot comps once in a while Ive put 1000's of rounds through my 40 xd and it's never had a single malfunction. I love this gun more than any other gun I have ever shot. I will be picking up the xdm 40 soon. I shoot with other people that also use the xd and xdm they all love it and swear by them.

Xd 40 subcompact here! Love it, my favorite gun by far. Springfield makes great guns and the 40 is the best of both worlds between the 9 and 45. Ammo isnt that much more than the 9 and you will be happy with the 40 imho.

I have the XD40 subcompact and always carry with 12 round mags. It's the most accurate out of the box weapon I've ever fired. I carry it in a thigh rig as a secondary weapon to my AR-15 at zombie shoots. It's also my daily CC weapon.

I Have shot both glocks and XD's. I enjoy to shoot them both but I prefer the feel and fit of my XD. I shoot fine with both and have never had issues with either. I own a 9mm. I say get good ammo and shoot straight and all will be fine. If you can't knock it down with 17 rounds of hollow points well placed then your in a world of shit, caliber be damned.

I haven't a clue, so will say none.

I picked up a XDM 9 back in the spring. I like it ok. A new learning curve for me on trigger control, but I about have that mastered. The interchangeable back straps make for a comfortable fit for my hands, altho still not as comfortable as the pacmyer grips on my old Taurus 99

The 19 round mag is a bear to load by hand. The loader that comes with the gear was kind of a pain as well so I got the maglula and it is a dream.
