Alright, so I turned the truck on and started driving, when I looked down and saw that the socket for the cigarette lighter was glowing and had heated up even though I had not pressed the lighter to turn it on. I don't even smoke so it doesn't really get used. On top of that, the clicking sound that the turn signal makes when it is switched on will occur even when I have not hit my turn signal on, and it will occur sporadically. Those are the two current problems. A few months ago the lights would stay on if I turned the truck off before I tried to turn the lights off, even when I turned them to the off position. They stopped doing that awhile ago and I have no idea why. I'm not an electrical person, I like the mechanical stuff so this is somewhat of a mystery to me. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!!

the power is there all the time so only pushing the lighter in makes the connection to work.

    you have 3 options:

1 - just leave the lighter out and throw it away or in the glove box

2 - replace the cigarette lighter and socket assembly with a new one, they are cheap to buy

3 - simply unplug the wires from the back of the cigarette lighter socket

all 3 options are 100% safe and will solve your problem

Alright, id prefer option 2. But what about the other two things? Is there a possibility of a larger underlying electrical problem, since the turn signal switch is being finicky at the same time? Its hard for me to believe that several different little electrical problems just happen to be happening at or close to the same time. Thanks again for the help!

no electrical wiring problem can make the cigarette lighter work on its own, period.

you may have other issues as well but those are just coincidental
